Pressing Tide unlocks the door and lets them (or just the older voice) in. He also absentmindedly puts on the ring. "I suppose, but probably not for the wielder," he says, somewhat distracted.

If the previous image was a man knocking at the door, now the image is of the man beginning to make himself at home. Rearranging small, innocuous objects to his own whim. Hanging his own pictures from the wall. Eating your food. Starting to tidy up a bit-throwing away some things, keeping others.

Bwahahahahaha! This is awesome. Unfortunately, it's also the point at which I say "No" or become a slavering conglomerate of damned souls.

Pressing Tide attempted to politely show the man the way out. "I do appreciate the offer, but I'm afraid I'm familiar with how such things go. Knowledge, as everything, has a price." He was willing to become more forceful if needed, but attempted to remain as courteous as possible, given the circumstances.

Before he did so, however, he did attempt to use his knowledge for one specific goal: finding out more about how the necklace, or similar arrangements might work, and the perils and long-term effects of sharing one's mind in such a manner. Using knowledge to discover its own perils was, he felt, a woefully underused (if still risky) strategy in such cases.


Also, if the ring is still getting hotter, take it off. Kind of a minor issue in comparison, though.

Then, you thank him, and make him unwelcome. The man lets himself out. Like he wanted you to know, he only left because you asked him to. As he leaves, you watch him take something precious from you, and place it in his pocket, and leaves a little something in its place, less valuable.


The vast intelligence that flooded your mind recedes, taking all that knowledge with him...along with something of yours. Too bad you can't remember exactly what that was.

1. Rings are permanently enchanted bands of metal, stone, or wood. Despite what most people think, the make, material or even crafstmanship of the Ring do not matter-only the enchantment laid upon it. Do not be fooled by the sparkle of the gem, or the gleam of precious metal. Look for the hidden words or runes of power, but not all rings are so clearly marked.

2. You'll notice used Rings seem warmer and warmer to the touch. Let them cool down *completely* after a few uses, or they will malfunction, and you'll get a taste of what you could be dishing out.

3. Older rings, or heavily used rings, are more likely to suffer catastrophic failure. They also cool down much slower, and heat up faster. Don't save old rings-dispose of them. Or sell them, more likely. At the very least, be careful.

Kirknak will trade a ring for three to four rations, or one of your magic items. He'll take 50 of your coins for one ring. If he claims to be selling it 'cheap' you can get it for two rations, or 25 coins, or even a minor item from your inventory.

Then he wanders over to Thogga who shows him the following potions, he has about five of each. Thogga will trade a potion for a ration, or multiple potions for one of your weapons.

"Thogga honest Salesorc, all other stuff make you die. Thogga sad when customers die."

You take a whiff and feel your form grow indistinct
"Thogga potion make you seem where are not, sometimes."

-Chunky Orange Potion-
You take a whiff and feel hair sprout on your chest.
"This one make you into animal, sort of-but you might not be you anymore."

-Sweet Smelling Potion- 4 Left
You take a whiff and feel sleepy. It smells like...sweet.
"This potion good for curing bad fears, makes the go away...for awhile"

-Watered Down Lampsur Potion-
You don't need to examine this-it's clearly a lampsur potion, if extremely watered down.
"Healing Potion Thogga make good-at least!"

-White Spicy Potion-
You take a whiff and burn your nostrils

"Thogga make potion to resist heat or cold. Maybe work, but also not work, make other one worse..."

Finally, he visits the Old Troll, who smiles toothlessly and shows him a dozen mushrooms, most of which are hallucinogenic-three are interesting to you, though, since you have not seen them before. Thogga will sell two mushrooms for a card reading, or one ration, and has about a half dozen of each. He's not very interested in any of your items.

I guess Krath and Zako could pool their money to buy one ring, or trade a magic item they have, and SeriousConcentrate could sell his staff to Thogga for 3-4 potions. War Wind has been banned from buying or helping to buy rings, though.
