-Mini Turn-
The Kai decide it would best to wait out the river monster, so they settle down for a long rest...most sit down and naturally sharpening their weapons and repairing their armor, inspecting their inventories, or keeping a lookout for danger. The Kai are well trained enough that one of them is always on watch, taking silent shifts of about an hour each.
Blade Singer gets bored of waiting, and begins to taunt War Wind/Chicken about his deliciousness, receives a few pecks from the grouchy bird. Eventually Molten Heart picks him by his legs and scolds him. While Blade Singer continues to taunt in the background. While Merame pets him and coos. War Wind imagines the Gods have cursed him for his hubris.
Molten Heart takes a look at the ring (Int Roll=8) But it doesn't seem any different to them a normal ring. He can feel magic coming from it, but not what kind. His only thoughts are to use some type of acid that destroys metal while sparing flesh. But, being a magic ring...well, that could be very bad. They have a tendency to explode when damaged.
Thogga mixes up more potions...
(Luck roll 10 Vs Fate roll 9, Lucky!)
He's sure he's got the right recipe this time. Just needs to put on the finishing touches... (potion will be done next turn)
Molten Heart begins rifling through War Winds bag, and takes out the white metal chunk, the spider-elf Armor and the crossbow. He's intent on claiming them if no one bothers to say anything. But Sheltering Leaves does! He convinces Molten Heart that War Wind won't be a chicken forever, and still will want his equipment when he returns to his original form-stealing is wrong...
Despite the fact that Sheltering Leaves has already taken the prayer book.
.....
(Encounter roll 5)
Pressing Tide is sitting in a cross legged position, using his mind-sense to sweep around for approaching hostiles. He's heard thousands of smaller minds like frogs, lizards, worms and insects, along with a few larger minds-one was a Cave Crocodile that was trying to sneak up on them, but he shooed it away-and a small group of Trolls that was more curious about them than hostile, whom he told they were Kai warriors. They don't know what Kai Warriors are, but they promise to tell all their friends about you.
Pressing Tide hears the marching in his mind, before all the Kai hear it for real. Spider-Elves! For, their minds match their wills-the endless, rhythmic marching of well coordinated boots, all minds and muscles bent to one purpose, drowning out all individuality and free will.
He opens his eyes and looks into the distance. He's detected at least two dozen lightly armored Spider-Elf warriors, with a spell caster in the middle, marching down the road, presumably to extract some sort of tribute against the Ogres. Their are at least a dozen sort of green Spheres circling them that Blade Singer recalls are scrying eyes, used for scouting terrain-those will be difficult to hide from. Pressing Tide is sure that these are merely thugs though-beyond their Witch, they are lightly armored and poorly trained.
Thogga says
"Oh spirits! Spider-Elves go round and say they claim 'taxes' from everyone in their territory-no one tell Thogga this their territory! Ogres, Trolls and Kobolds say no. They promise to come back with meaner force...Thogga not fight good. Thogga should surrender...make better slave than alchemist..."
The Kai have some time to prepare. An obvious choice is to hide and let the Spider-Elves run into the monster, which responds to Sheltering Leaves request amicably enough (Still eating. Don't expect me to rush on your account, sir.), but the monster is not exactly trying to hide. As is, it would be as easy to spot him as Molten Heart did.
If the Kai attempt to hold the pass or ambush them, the Spider Elves will have difficulty bringing their numbers to bear in battle-as it stands, barely four of them could stand abreast on the road without crowding.
It's clear the Spider-Elf Force intends some sort of evil if they get to the Ogre village. If the Kai get their first, they can warn them, as well.
Darain hasn't spoken in a while, so he decides to say something.
"If your going to kill them, can I watch? You've got a natural chokepoint here, you could really make a bloody mess of things. They might get you in the end, but it would be glorious."
