With AMD Bulldozer up for release this June (I've heard 11 of June and 20 of June), we're sure to see an epic clash of some sorts.
One might even go as far to say that it's a do-or-die (pun intended) CPU for AMD if it can't blow Sandy Bridge out of the water.
After all, the approximately equally priced 2600K absolutely destroys AMD's flagship, the Phenom II X6 1100T.

For motherboards, we're seeing some nice features there.
MSI, too, has been making a board with the dubious name "Big Bang Conqueror".
It seems the big manufacturers are getting it on, indicating that Bulldozer may actually be quite promising.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

I'm just glad there's competition between them. I wish Nvidia could get their hands on an x86 license too.

Okay, I'll admit it. I don't get it. What's different this time around?
Intel is releasing a new processor. AMD is releasing a new processor. What's the difference now to every time this has happened before?

So THIS is how migrations start.

The difference is that if AMD can't get its shit straight, Intel will quite simply cream AMD in the whole mainstream to performance price bracket.
For AMD, which has already been a bit weak for the last few years this is a very bad thing.

One caviot about Sandy Birdge which is sure to turn off at least a few:
Quote
The processors include a "service" called Intel Insider, which the company claims is "an extra layer of content protection",[35] and despite claims, is a form of Digital rights management (a technology that inhibits uses of digital content not desired or intended by the content provider).
(wiki)
This of course is rather minor, all things considered; however, it has been trumpeted from the rooftops to the point where almost everyone familiar with hardware now associates 'Sandy Bridge' with DRM.

And, indeed, to me, this is a good reason to get a Bulldozer. I'd even accept slightly lower performance.
Also, the Bulldozer will give more cores for the same buck - an octocore will run up against the 2600K - which is very handy when you do lots of compiling or more scientific tasks, something I plan to do lots of.

MMmmmmm yeah. I know the Intel Insider thing is meant to support users, but it just has evil implications in the hands of DRM crazy companies.

I recall way back in the day when AMD/Intel Nvidia/ATI blood feuds raged in all the PC game magazines. Good times and great prices.

Do keep in mind fewer cores means less delegation which boosts workflow.

And yet another thread filled with ignorance RE Intel Insider.
http://www.intel.com/consumer/products/technology/intelinsider.htm
It's not meant to be DRM in the traditional sense.  It couldn't work, at any rate.  It won't affect you unless you try to pirate a movie that uses it.  Though I'm not sure how you could, unless the scene folks are getting their content from II sources.  I can't imagine that it'll be adopted on a scale large enough for that to happen.
EDIT: Hell, according to Intel (yeah, yeah), it won't even do that.

Bulldozer's already lost; a few short months after it launches, Intel is moving onto IvyBridge
