Hi guys :)

I was ill lately and had some time, that I didn't know what do with. So I decided to make portraits of each dwarf from our starting party, as I have their descriptions. Sounded fun. Humbly I started from 23kulpamens, as my self. And effect is like..., but if time will let me, I'll draw other dwarves. It seems to be pretty good way to practice portrait.

Here is how it looked on the paper project:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And here how it is looking after 4hrs of work on computer with my shitty Pentagram tablet
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And if you're still interested, here you can watch speed painting video from the last half of drawing

I have to change my tablet :P

Awesome!

Our new migrants have brought a cat with them. Good, because the rats were starting to be too many.

I have seen a peculiar arrangement. Nevyn is working on the mining while Kulpamens carves the tables. It would seem that they are trying to improve each others' skills, with the better mason being mining and the better miner being doing the masonry. I think it would be more efficient the other way around, but an improvement in skill is not a thing that is bad.

No sign of Hippos for a month. Perhaps they have migrated to another part of the lake.

We are finished with the digging of the living area, for now.

Soon we shall be finished making and moving the furniture. It is good now to have beds to sleep in, and we are happy.

Some of my comrades were curious that I had my own bedroom. "Comrades, do not be worried. It is not out of selfishness, nor out of a desire to stay away from you. Nothing would make me have more happiness than to be with you at all times. But it is more efficient for me to sleep near my workplace, so that I may better help our community."

This truth satisfied them, but Nanomage looked into my eyes. I do not think he wholly believed me. This makes me sad.

Yes! We are brewing now! There is not much wood, so we save it for beds, and use stone pots instead. Good thing, we were down to just 19 barrels. Soon I hope to make an above-ground farm for strawberry wine. Also, we now have tables and thrones in community hall

An Edruvan caravan from Emerminschwalz has arrived!

I had heard of the fungus folk back in my homeland, but now I am overjoyed to be encountering them for real! From what I know they should bring plenty of food, for they are masters of the soil and swamp.

Unfortunately, we have no trade goods. They shall be staying for a while, though, so I shall have time to stall them while Nevyn does his work. Soon we shall prove how prosperous Communism makes people!

Autumn has arrived on the calendar, but it the only noticeable difference was a slight cooling in temperature. I find this year round warmth quite preferable to the freezing environs of the Great East Hall of The Brave Cudgel from where I came.

I also met formally with the Edru today, since earlier I had just helped them unpack. Their names are Remernu Keharmulf (Remernu Ballsang) and Udord Prannede (Udord Swalloweddour).

Udord was their speaker "We have heard there was a dwarven colony here. What is the nature of this place?" She spoke in a slow, resonating drawl.

"We are Cuborator, the Worker's Paradise! Here we we work for the good of all, and not for the nobles who claim divine right!"

I could see no expression on the four-eyed face, but though these mushroom-people are alien to us I am convinced it was smiling! "Hmmm. What are your intentions toward the Lessened Arm?"

"We only wish for the good of all. You have nothing to worry about with us except goods and trade."

"Yeeeeeeeeees. Those trade good we have waited a fortnight for are nearly ready?"

"Of course, my friend, of course."

I would be cautious, with those stone pots. Heard that they could be like black hole for food, and nothing other than pushing them into some caravan will help. Don't know if they're eating this food thou...

Never had that happen to me before, and I have a fort going on 8 years old that uses pots exclusively.

Also, I don't remember everything that's in the unpolished mods. I think that I multiplied every grazing animal's [GRAZER:] value by 10 so elephants could live.
Poke around in the raws and tell me what you find. I think that there's at least one other modded civ than the Edru.

Can't wait for more of those portraits, BTW

Finally got to trading with the Edru today. Good thing, they were ready to leave.

Udord said to me. "At last we meet properly, dwarf. Greetings. We are enchanted by your more ethical works. We have come to trade."

"Ethical works? What would you say we do that is unethical?"

"Dwarven goods, as are the goods of many others, are made by slave labor. We Edru who are all grow from the same spores are pained that others act as ants: lives are worthless, to be replaced when lost. Workers, soldiers, drones, and queens. The society of the meat creatures is uniform."

Then there was followed a long and painful argument. It unnerves me how these creatures show no emotion in their voice. But our trading did not seem to be hampered. They were shrewd, and I believe that they asked for too much of the goods of ours, but next time I have learned much in the ways of trading. From them we have procured a small amount of meat, 3 new kinds of seed which can be grown to make alcohol, and a large supply of whip wine and sewer brew. Comrade Kulpamens is very fond of whip vine!

Also, with mine keen eyes I spotted and purchased some valley herb. Barring a gross mismanagement of resources, these shall be planted and we shall produce valuable golden salve.

HugoLuman's journal
1st Sandstone, 501

We had just completed the coop and gotten the turkeys laying...

... when I discovered that the Edruvan caravan had spread news of us! More comrades flock to our banner! There are three of them:

Deduk "Renownedaxe" Ellbelibash, Potash maker
Lolor "Netpondered" Kibzoz, Carpenter (Who has many fighting skills and a steel axe...)
Nomal "Ropecovered" Godenlaltur, Glassmaker.

Glad to save these workers, and soon I shall put them to use. Debuk I have put to work on the farm, and the other two I have yet to find a use for. I am thinking, though, that I must stop crowding before it starts. We shall need to delve an apartment complex soon. However, the miners are busy making furniture and trade goods. We are behind schedule in that regard, and it worries me.

In other news, our llamas and war dogs have procreated. Soon I hope for a large flock of llamas so we may have wool and meat.

Nevyn has just finished a well earned break. But now he must work doubly fast, for we need trade goods to sell when the homeland caravan arrives. I must back up our words by showing our wealth!

My most trusted comrade, Kulpamens, spoke to me this evening. He had been speaking with the other comrades, and had some concern. "Leader, we must find a way to work with other industries. Workers with talents we have no use for are beginning to arrive, and we must make a place for them."

"I agree, comrade, but how are we to do this thing? We have only two picks for now, and no time to delve with them. We would need a quick source of fire for our glassmaker, and the smiths which are sure to arrive."

I could see, though, that he had an answer which he dearly wished to provide. "Yes, our comrades and I have been talking. There is a mountain of fire here, a volcano. All we must do is tap it. The lifeblood of the earth can fuel our forges. Also, we need to dig more workshops, to make use of the extrra products of our agriculture."

"Yes. I know well there is much work to be done. But also, we need more food. I wish to build a farm for surface plants."

"Leader, there are too many rocks on the soil above us, and the grasslands at the foot of this mountain are too far to from the hall to be safe or efficient."

"I know this is a problem. But why do you talk so defeatist?"

"Well, Leader, comrade Nevyn the architect has a solution. He says we should build a windmill aqueduct to irrigate a small space on the plateau above the entrance. But such a project would take many months, and potentially waste valuable resources."

The discussion continued long, until sundown. But at last I grew tired. "Comrade, you have given me much to think about, atop what I already am having. Allow me to sleep on it."

Also, Lafiel informs me that my grammar is improving.

18th Timber, 501

A caravan from the homeland has arrived. Time to show the nobles whom they're dealing with! Literally.

The Thikut Quillbusts, the outpost liason, met with me. "How goes the crown's latest outpost?" She asked, dourly.

"This is a home for the workers. No king, no lord, no master. But we are doing well."

To this she just frowned apathetically. "You are a fool, HugoLuman. The purpose of a colony is to bring wealth and glory to the rulers of a nation. You are merely the foreman of a home of peasants, nothing more. Now, what do you need to serve your lords?"

"I assume you mean what supplies must we have. Very well. We need cats."

"What?"

"Yes, we have but one and the vermins are growning in their numbers of themselves. And we're going to need much food and drink, plenty of pig meat should be fine. Also, we are needing of some iron bars to get our smithies going."

"Fine. And the nobles need these things. I expect them by next year." She handed me a list of useless baubles. "If you change your tune and do well, you may just become Baron of this hole. But more than likely you shall get one of the sons of the Duke. Make this hall fit for your lord."

"Don't worry, I will make sure any lord that comes here gets what they deserve."

"And do not forget your place. Everything that is belongs to the nobility, for they are pure and it is our place to be ruled. They humbly consent to let us live off their things."

"We shall see about that."

From the traders I procured much meat and alcohol. Muthkat, the trader was pleased to meet me. "Is it true what you plan to do here?" he whispered excitedly. "A few of us workers back home have heard stories."

"Yes, comrade, it is true. We shall liberate those who work hard only to have the fruits of their toil snatched by the leeches!"

Winter brings but few changes to this place where we are. Nevyn and Kulpamens, hard workers, have engraved the walls of our Community Hall. What praiseworthy dwarves! Lafiel continues to catch fish, but of use to us could another fisherman be. Also, I have ordered the construction of some appartments:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

These should be rooms for twenty comrades. It will take some time to make beds, doors, and coffers for each, and I fear we shall soon need yet many more rooms.

I seem to have grown somewhat fat in the last month, a sign that I can be doing more for my comrades. When Comrade Kulpamens takes over managing in two months, I shall take a pickaxe and work the stone.

I have ordered the construction of 20 doors for the apartments. I have no knowing of how many beds we have, so no orders yet. Also I have thought of a way to keep the people clean. Simply, a shallow basin dug across the entrance hallway (Which my comrades have mysteriously taken to calling "The Hall of Middle Finger. I do not understand.) which will be filled 3/7ths full of water.

However, my comrades are slow in getting this done. It would seem I have burdened them with too much work, but I know that they shall persevere!

Confounded beasts! They shall all die for the revolution! There were only three of them, but their intent was clear. Curse the rhinoceri, curse them!

Our 3 woodsmen were out cutting trees for the beds, when the  beasts came through. They scattered my comrades like mice. It is very lucky indeed that we sustained no casualties, aside from a bruise on Nanomage.
