We have arrived! Though in our excitement we have driven the wagon up the side of the mountain, and shall be unable to move it again:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But I do not believe this will be problem. We shall dig into the side of the mountain here!

As soon as we stretched out from being in cramped wagon for 12 hours, I held a meeting to discuss how we should begin. My comrades were admirably eager to get to work, but some things must be done first.

"My comrades, there is something I must tell you. You acknowledge my glorious leadership, and know that I am wise and have knowing of all things. The community must be led by it's own will, though. I lead for that is how I can best help the community, but to ensure that we are nothing like the nobility, no one should hold power for too long or else they might be thinking that they are ruling. Therefore, after our first year, it will be the turn of another comrade for the leading."

I could see that this made surprised their faces, but they all agreed that this was the correct way of thinking.

"Speaking of the nobility," spoke up Lafiel, "What shall we do when they hear of our site?"

"They will think of us as a colony for their benefit, and try to extend their reach here," said Kulpamens.

A good issue, and I had also an answer that was good. "It is simple, if they come we shall kill them until they stay away."

I thought this would be satisfactory, but then comrade Nanomage rose from his seat on the wagon. "But Glorious Leader, is it not our aim to destroy the nobility?"

This was puzzling to me. "Yes. That is why we will kill them."

"But then they shall stay away, exist forever, and blight the world. Would it not be better to instead attract as many as possible to our place, and then destroy them all forever?"

This was good loyal thinking, but misguided. I laughed to show him I had no anger. "Comrade, you do not understand. We cannot allow the working class to be under the feet of the aristocracy any longer than we have to. And to prolong it would be to betray them."

He did not reply, but instead sighed and sat back down. I am sure he shall get over these feelings, though. With that, I sent them all to start on their work.

I think we should establish our Dwarven Social-Democratic Workers' Party as the progressive vanguard of the workers' class, so that we later can have some schisms and mutinies in it!

That's the plan!

If you look closely you may already see trouble brewing :D

For 8 days Lafiel has been moping around, sad that there is no work for him to be having. I asked him why not is he fishing, and he said to me that he could not find a safe path down to the shore. So I told Nanomage to build a plank bridge over the stream. I guess he cannot fish the stream because the banks are too steep. Not even banks, the stream flows through a deep groove in the ground.

We could have built stone, but Kulpamens and Nevyn are too busy digging. What magnificent speed they have! Already they carve a wide halway and are starting the work of digging out our mushroom farm and preliminary storeroom

Lafiel was been at fishing for a while. I was concerned so to check on him I went, and It was much to my fright that what I saw. He was soaking wet, and was crawling out of the water. To get out he must have gotten in. No dwarf should have to go in water.

I asked what happened and he told me a milkfish made attacks to him. Into the water did it drag him, but he escaped without the harm. I told him to be more careful.

Close encounter with a milkfish today. At least it wasn't a carp. Also, I know the Leader is from the eastern mountain, but with all due respect he has terrible grammar.

Crap! Just realized I forgot to bring any cats on embark

The farm is complete. Here is a rough charcoal etching:

We have also carved out a trade depot. I plan for us to be selling goods soon to prove that this system is best. Also are the hall has ramped down for defensive purposes. I am thinking of the Ballistae battery at the entrance hall of my homeland. But that is not for the buidling of now. First we must dig out workshops so we may be making of the beds.

For some reasons that I have no knowing of, some of my comrades find this map of the hall entertaining to them. Not wanting to alienate the community, I chuckled too. Strange. Maybe they laugh with joy at the image of an upturned warhammer?

While digging out our workshop space, we have struck a large vein of gold! Praised be our comrades who have dug this!

Lafiel has been harrassed lately, but by a far deadlier foe. The journal that led us here spoke of strange drowning horses, but now I see this meant the dreaded hippopotami. He was not injured, but the presence of these beasts makes me have uneasiness. I fear for the safety of my comrade, but we need those fish!

Also, the bonding power of work is proven! I see how by working together we have all become closer. My comrades Nanomage and Nevyn are fallen in love!

Those milkfishes are Armok dman it aggresive. I newer saw it on my own eyes, but heard some horrible stories about some carps that could rip a dwarf apart. And dwarf didn't even know what happend.

I didn't saw any hippos in journal, maybe they came here long later, they're so noisy and smelly that they couldn't been missed. I hope they will seat in their cannon river forever. Don't want any near by, they seem to clumsy to be safe.

And what the hippos are thinking...

- Hey Hippo 1, check it out. There are some dwarfs in there. Wanna have snack, I didn't ate any for ages.
 - Nope.
 - But why?
 - They will come themselves, you'll see. They'll come... :>

i don't know what milkfish really is but the carp had really amused me. i mean, even the largest of them doesn't have a single tooth in their mouth. That's a mistery how that thng could cause death to a dwarf! Sturgeon, too, made me laugh when i was reading reports of tham tearing my adventurers apart! the thing hasn't a single tooth to bite anyone, much less tear an arm or "latch firmly"! Hippos, on the other hand, really do

Well I dunno why carps are so deadly. Maybe they suck so strong that it can injury a dwarf or even tear him apart. So they don't need any teeth.

May be late on finishing my turn, finals and all that. But I'll try to be done by sunday.

Also, a milkfish is a herbivorous, toothless fish that generally grows to be about 3 feet long. It is very bony and a staple meat source in the Pacific Islands. Not really very strong or in the least bit dangerous, but as we all know, Toady made fish 'too hardcore.'

HugoLuman's journal
1st Hematite, 501

Summer has arrived on the calendar, though here it still seems blissful spring. We have been here three months, and already what progress we have made! Farms already and soon to be completed in digging is the space for the wood and stone workshops. Nanomage, restless after being idle two months, is already making beds which we soon hope to put into use.

As for now, still we are sleeping in the wagon or on the floor of our tunnel.

This morning we woke to a strange sight: fish that travel the land! I have heard of lungfish, but it was very disconcerting to be seeing with eyes the fish wriggling near where we slept. Once comrade NRDL woke with one on top of him.

Completion of workshop rooms has happened, and now we are starting on the living space, soon there shall be a hall for meetings, a kitchen, a dormitory, and an office so I can help my comrades by checking supplies.

I have made a drawing of our comrades working!

Such magnificent effort for the good of us all! It gladdens me of the heart.

HugoLuman's journal
28th Hematite, 501

Today we have received migrants!

There were four of them, and they looked in poor fare. The head of them told me, "We have come to this place seeking relief. At our home we were crushingly poor, so when we heard of a new colony we came this way, following wagon tracks. We know that, at least for a while, there are no taxes in new colonies. May we stay here? All we want is a new life, where we are not too poor to live."

At last, an opportunity to save lost souls from the grip of the aristocracy! "Comrades!" I told them, "Your troubles are over with. Here, there will never BE taxes. There shall never BE nobles to levy them. Here we live as nature is intended, under the system of..." I realized I had yet to think of a name for our perfect existence, but then it was so obvious, so right, so natural that name which came to me. "...communism! Where it is the community, not those who sit atop like fat spiders, that matters. We all work for the community to enrich it, and in turn the community, all our comrades around us, enrich US!"

I continued talking. At first their faces held fear, for something so unfamiliar, but gradually my passion filled them and they took on looks of wonder.

We are now 11 strong. Our new comrades are:

Zasit Ganerib, woodcutter
ezum Sibrekothil, Miller
Kol Zonecem, Presser
Imush Olonsobir, Soap maker

The 3 latter ones I have assigned to help with the farms. They seemed content with this.

Hi guys :)

I was ill lately and had some time, that I didn't know what do with. So I decided to make portraits of each dwarf from our starting party, as I have their descriptions. Sounded fun. Humbly I started from 23kulpamens, as my self. And effect is like..., but if time will let me, I'll draw other dwarves. It seems to be pretty good way to practice portrait.

Here is how it looked on the paper project:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And here how it is looking after 4hrs of work on computer with my shitty Pentagram tablet
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And if you're still interested, here you can watch speed painting video from the last half of drawing

I have to change my tablet :P
