Communist Fortress (Succession Game)
« on: May 23, 2011, 01:30:00 am »

From comrade nanomage's turn:

Mayor took the largest and the least torn sheet of paper. It contained endless drawings of hammers, picks, hooks, shovels and other tools, sometimes intercrossed with eash other. Some images were underlined or circled. There were also several short poemsstrange piece of poetry on the paper - they looked like crude translations and none of them had any pace or rhymes.

"This is the old world.
All sufferring of craftsdwarves is of highest magnitude.
It is adorned with hanging rings of violence
And menaces with spikes of exploitation.
On the world are images of awfully designed kingdoms
The old world is slated for removal
To build the new world is our labour
We will spurn the dust and win the prize."

Players so far:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The rules are this:

-Turns are first-come, first-serve. Sign up now!

-We will be using the weekly format. You play from spring of one year to spring of next, me going first. You might get an extension based on circumstance, but try to keep your turn to one week. Tardy players will have their turn go to the next in line, and may or may not be moved to the end of the line.

-If you don't think you can get your turn done when it comes, we'll hand it over but hold your spot. So when you're ready you can play next, not be moved to the end of the line.

-Please do not intentionally wreck the fort. We want this to be good fun for many people for a while, right? Also, the fort will be restored to the state the previous player left it in if destroyed (until we get a few turns in) so that at least a few people have a chance to play.

-All nobles must die. Barons, Counts, Kings, etc, and their families. The revolution must leave no trace of them, lest they return! But administrators and officials such as bookkeepers, mayors (Glorious Leader!), etc, are alright. After all, any totalitarian communist regime needs officials! But the aristocracy must die, whether it be immediate execution or subtle plot or whatever you can think of.

We will be playing as The Brave Cudgel, the largest Dwarf civ in this generated world. Before we play, we will choose a site together. There are minerals everywhere in this world, but to make the game more Fun, there are more megabeasts and some unpolished mods. Who knows what kind of Fun those will cause?

Edit: Here is the world before we began: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=4425

Here is the most recent save: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=4847

Warning: The aforementioned unpolished mods may be incompatible with some graphics sets. You may want to play from a new, seperate DF directory without graphics turned on. However, Ironhands tile set is known to be compatible. Feel free to test others. If you want to know what the mods are, take a look/ test play on the world.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, but not that new to the Dwarf Fortress. I've played it for over a month. First I was like WTF, and all of dwarfs were dead from hunger. But then I found those great tutorials from cptDuck, and found a lot of Fun. Although interface is not so great.

My first (not counting that first) fell to goblins, second to naughty elves, and third to something that came from underground. Didn't check what was it at once, and can't remember it right now. But it killed my proud Hammer Lord without a blink. Fourth fort is standing, pretty chaotic as it grows, but can stand pretty big goblin sieges. Now I'm experimenting with some stone collapsing traps.

Now when you know me a little I'd like to join to this game, but newer played passable game. I see it as a sea of Fun :)

PS What is the RL date of start?

Mods included, only affect the downloaded world

Start date? In about a week and a half, we need a few players signed up and a site.

Comrades, I see unbearable lack of comunist ideas in right-top of map. I'd like to teach this uncivilized wild life proper way of thinking. Also it's far from other civs so we will be more sure that no shadow of capitalism, monarchy or other bourgeoisie above us. For glory of motherland!

Possibly, there is a site with a volcano near the banks of a freshwater lake. It could fuel our glorious steel making!

On another note, what site should we host screenshots on?

Will you be taking dorfs, or is this a pure succession game?  Either way, I hope this interesting fort will prosper and survive ( unlike the Soviet Union ).  For the Motherland!

I don't like what you're insinuating. You'll be the first to the Unswerving Tundras gulag!

Also, regarding the place, I've seen a couple of good sites, but I can't find that lake with the volcano. There's a damn lot of volcanoes in this map.

I think lafiel is right, Mother Russia will never perish. And our union is striking for bright future! So keep such doubts for yourself.

I'm not doubting this fort's capability and potential.  I was just asking if you guys are taking communist dorfs.

First 7 players (including me) pick a dwarf, anyone after has to choose from immigrants. Each player gets a dwarf to represent them and tell their story from the point of view of.

The mods dont seem to like  some graphics sets. Try downloading DF and putting the new DF in a separate directory, then putting the region10 in this virgin folder. That way you could be sure to have no conflicts, and your usual directory will still have your stuff in it.

BTW that lake is right smack on the East edge of the map. Start in Northeast corner and go down. You'll see it

New to the game, but you can count me in.  I'd like to see if I can put what I've learned so far into good use.  In the mean time, I'll keep experimenting on my own fort to polish up my skills.
