It was glorious
« on: May 22, 2011, 05:01:19 pm »

I was watching a friend's house for the week. And important thing to note about this house is that it has a 72 inch flatscreen HD TV.

I hooked my computer up to it and played dwarf fortress for an entire day in all its unmodded, eye gouging, monstrous glory with a dwarf adventurer almost the size of my fist.

This is what is good in life.

That sounds like the fast track to an almighty headache to me...

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

Next time, change the settings so that everything remains roughly the same size. So many thousands of tiles displayed on the same screen... Headache almost guaranteed. A glorious, dwarven headache.

Besides, at that resolution, ninety percent of the tiles would be out of your range of vision and useless.

He who plays with dwarves must take care that he does not become a dwarf.  And when you stare into DwarfFort, Dwarffort stares back into you.

Unless you stand back from the screen, then you can see them all.

Centration. Similar to Spacestation 13, but in 3D and first-person. Sounds damn awesome.

Game with no graphics on a big screen TV. I love it.

Note: A 72" flat screen still has a resolution of either 1366x1768 or 1920x1080. Most likely the latter. But still, there seems to be the unspoken assumption that the screen having larger physical dimensions gives it a larger resolution, which isn't true.

You just need to get one of these for that: http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/19/sharp-shows-off-the-worlds-first-super-hi-vision-lcd-with-16x-m/

85 inch lcd, 7680x4320 resolution. :)

I'd like a screen that displays three or four z-layers at once.

That sucker is as tall as me. I WANT ONE!

I'd like a screen that displays three or four z-layers at once.

Seeing more than one layer at a time? What sorcery is this?

Then it happened. Then I cringed. Then I picked it up and beat him to death with it, and then his buddies, too.

Well, if you look in the top-right corner while you're playing adventurer...

Also, from from that article Soralin posted:
If estimates are correct, we'll still be waiting until around 2020 for that 33MP video and 22.2 channel sound to actually be broadcast

lol, estimations. They estimated the human genome project would take, what, 50 years at best? It's been done for 6.
