question about trade and wagons
« on: May 22, 2011, 12:35:26 pm »

One of my big problems with DF maps is the best spots are often considered islands, so only your race will trade with you. Is it possible to make a mountable, aquatic wagon that will cause other races to trade with you?

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Wagons don't work at the moment, so you don't even have anything to build on. Amphibious trade animals won't work either, as traders will not cross water.

You can use a long embark as a bridge. If you use the just embark tool, methinks you can create a string of embarks leading to the island. You don't need a physical bridge, just an embark. I am certain that it works within a region tile, but I am unsure as to whether it works across multiple region tiles in the way that a trans-continental magma pipeline would, but it's worth a try.
