Captain Obvious worthy names.
« on: May 21, 2011, 08:54:45 pm »

Post names that describe something in a completely obvious way that makes you want to say "Captain Obvious, faster than the speed of Stupid!"

Mine?
The Wooden Jungles, who could've guessed they were made of wood?

The Stony Peaks, Couldn't have figured that out on my own.

Though maybe that's the issue. The concept is just too simple for the dwarven mind to grasp!

I've had something like "the wet jungle", a tropical moist forest. Guess the name "rainforest" makes sense...

Thanks for the suggestion, but Number4 is correct: [...] it would be easier and more predictable to just be a racist.

Did somebody just rule 34 two veins of metal?

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...
Link for full quote. 'tis mighty funny.

I have a cave named The Deep of Dangers, a dragon's lair named The Hot Warmth. But the name I like most is the squad of all-female Legendary+5 hammerdwarves who came as king's entourage: The Singed Dikes. I also like names of human civs, like The Problematic Empires, The Rough Confederacy or The Confederacy of Competition. They are sooo human. Ever seen a non-problematic empire or a smooth confederacy without internal competition?

Not my world, but I've seen someone complaining about stumbling upon an ocean called The Most Waters. Someday, I'll pay attention to my world maps and give my own examples.  8)

The three squads of my military weren't overly obvious, until there were stuck together. The rounded-out squads were 'The Helmed Spears' and 'The Trampled Dikes', who fought bravely during the downfall. The crossbow squad, 'The Bolts of Fleeing' wouldn't even show up.

I had an embark housing a brook called 'The Flow of Waters' or something to that effect.

There was this one fort, where I had built a big and long bridge out of stone. You had to cross like 3/4 of the map to get to the fort by the bridge, since it was built on top of a major river. Anyway.

Here comes Urist McBadass and finally he has earned enough kills for a name AND a title?

And what is it?

Something along the lines of "Furious Charge of Mountains".
God damn, did this guy lead every charge down the bridge by himself or is he really that unimaginative?

Oh, and let me say that I missed Dwarf Therapist translating surnames.

My first fortress that lasted more than the first siege had a Catten Impressivebusts. She was a near-legendary milker.  :o
