Stupid Military
« on: May 21, 2011, 04:59:45 pm »

For some reason when I adjusted some uniforms half of my military decided to chuck their clothes all over the fort and leave them there... any way I could get them to use them again, or put them back on, or just unclaim them?

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

Claimed clothes are a bugger to control.  Try cabinets in the soldiers bedrooms.  If you have the squad set to store gear in their barracks a cabinet there might help

I wish I had something cool to say about this.  Because it's really cool.

DFHack has some new programs that unclaim and even autodestroy clothing. Only other way to unclaim clothing is to kill the militia.  :P

or of course magma would also work :)

Barricading the dwarves in and running a magma stream through the halls usually works well for unclaiming. You did make everything out of magma-safe materials, right?

But, no. Clothing claims are a serious annoyance right now. Dwarves will leave their clothes laying around (often it being taken off for no particular reason) and nobody will ever pick it up because somebody else owns it. Dwarves also won't take new clothes to wear, even if theirs are worn out or have actually fallen off due to wear.

Magma may really be the best solution to this. That, or d-b-h.

Actually, you can assign the military clothing to wear with their armor, etc. I'm assuming you assigned a uniform that replaced their clothing. Simply edit the uniform to include the clothing you want them to wear, or tell them to wear the uniform over their clothing. They may or may not pick up what they left scattered about; but at least they're wearing something under the metal.

They're meant to be uniformed when inactive and wearing their clothes under their uniform, yet they're still determined to take off their right socks/shoes/gloves/mittens and amy headwear they're wearing randomly.

I'm very, VERY close to assigning the whole fort to wear a uniform.

Half my military is now running around totally naked, the rest is wearing way more than they're meant to, the 'preferred' weapons they've all picked up are ones which they're not trained in, I've got a high master axedwarf running around with a whip. -.- This is ridiculous.
