Oh, Soaplanterns.  Come back, we miss you.

I bought you some flowers.

Dwarf fortress is a game about an eternal struggle that you can never, ever win.

Yeah. It's sad that Zeph isn't around anymore because of his CPU issues.

Also, bumping for high hopes.

This story is friggin' epic.. if its not already, it needs to be put in the hall of legends
That being said, can I be dorfed, if Zeph comes back?   Beekeeper or cheesemaker, si vous plais.

Its also inspired me to do something similar (Though i'm no where near as good of a writer, so I won't be posting it..), but using a guild of beekeepers and the Fortress Defense mod.  :D

Edit: Embarked on an evil mountain literally NEXT to a goblin tower, and.. I forgot my picks.  O.O Literally, accidently embarked with nothing.  Nothing but a beekeeper, cheesemaker, soapmaker, fish dissector, small animal dissector, doctor, and weaver.  o.O

well, you still can disassemble the wagon, use one log to build carpentry, second log to make wooden axe, and then cut trees and build from lumber.

Well, using a generally similar layout of an above-ground rampart, I've finally figured out how to use marksdwarves :D

The outer wall is 3-tiles wide, with Fortifications on both sides and a 1-tile wide walkway.  The entrance to the outer ramparts is linked to the inner ramparts, and thus is the only way up there.  If the enemy has breached that far, we're fucked anyways.  The inner ramparts/wall is only two wide with fortifications on the outside, looking into the courtyard (Which circles around the inner walls), and two ramps near the hatches to down below.

Having 10 unskilled marksdwarves with copper crossbows and wooden bolts (What can I say, I'm poor) man the outer ramparts, with the gates open to draw in the invaders, I was able to easily survive a siege consisting of 3 squads of Beak Wolves and 2 squads of elephant-riding white tigermen.  If they had gotten inside.. I'd have been screwed to no end XD

All of this was inspired by Soaplanterns.. I love this fort, and hope Zephyr fixes his computer soon :D

you don't want wood bolts I would use bone instead cause unless your enemy is naked the wood bolts will bounce off

That's not true. Besides, most enemies are half naked anyway.

I have a bone crafter making bone bolts as well, but the woodcrafters do it faster.  Though it was nice seeing someone get hit by an elf bone bolt that I made.. *Grins*
