Oh, um... did you actually *name* him Justicedwarf? Sorry if I was unclear; I wanted him to be *named* ImBocaire, and his *profession* name to be Justicedwarf.

Thanks :D

being un-butcherable, is there any interesting ways we could get soap-trophies from invaders?

[Butchering sentients?? That's elvish. No.]

Madushkubuk

we see you Madushkubuk

are you there

are you listening

are you

are you listening?"

"Huh?" I said.

Dr Kosotham peered at me. "Gods' mercy, Zephyr, you look awful. Have you been sleeping lately? When's the last time you made some soap?"

"Oh. Uh... I don't know. I haven't... I had a... funny dream."

"What about?"

"I... I don't remember." The fog cleared. "What day is it?"

"Good grief. It's the fourth of Granite. Go and get yourself cleaned up and make some soap, for Datan's sake."

Soap. Yes. Soap. Hadn't I done something about that? Oh, yes...

I got up from the table and wandered over to the area I'd marked for digging late last year.

"Hey! Why've you left all those bits?"

"It's wet, Mr Madushkubuk," said Rovod, the miner I'd relinquished my old pick to. "I'm sure it's part of the aquifer. We dig that out, the place'll flood."

"Oh. Well, we don't want that." Damnation, that was supposed to be my soap stockpile. Oh well, it would just have to be a funny shape now.

Yes my question wasn't "can we butcher" but can we find another novel way to make trophies out of the better sentient kills? Soap is, sadly, not an option here

Hell, they  retreating with our goblinite! we should invent something to block their way back!

like, say, dry moat that surrounds whole area. Moat filled with cage traps and covered with bridges. When they are in - they run over bridge. When they are about to run away - we remove bridges and they got into cages.

I like peregarrets thinking. This will aid both training and metal supples

Or why not make a long hallway with a drawbridge at the end. Spot an ambush, close the drawbridge, trapping the goblins.

Katana, that's not dwarfy enough. Too simple.

Raising drawbridge. Any goblins that happen to be on it get sent flying and explode into butcher-able into bone pieces.

[I think you guys will like this update. Not as dwarfy as peregarrett would like, but perhaps later...]

The goblins were unlikely to be back for a while, so we rushed out to do various jobs that had been put off: woodcutting (there was almost no wood left in the fort), weapons salvage, and collection of the spent bolts. It also seemed like a good time to build that pillbox Taup Caudata had been bothering me about. He'd been practicing happily all winter and was eager to give "Bessie" a proper field test.

"While we're doing this..." said Peregarrett, meaningfully.

...

"So we're agreed. We can't let them keep getting away."

"You're all mad," I said. "I just want them to go away, and you're talking about trapping them in here with us!"

"They have iron and we don't. We need iron. Therefore, we need goblins."

"So what do you want to do?"

"Let's close off our weak points," Nevyn said. "The river is a good protection, we're okay from the south. We're pretty good in the west too, that murky pool forces enemies to move away from the walls to get to our gate, and that puts them right under the marksdwarves. I say we start building more walls, force them where we want them to go..."

Mid-spring

17th Felsite

"Elves, Mr Madushkubuk."

When was this ever good news? "Are they running, trigg?"

"Oh, they're running..."

I can't decide if FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU or FU** YEAH. That's some serious siege. Though there seem to be no ranged goblins...

Edit: Well, ok, there's one. But what's one against us? right?  ::)

I suggest closing the gate and letting the marksdwarves deal with the enemies first, before putting any novice swordsdwarves at risk.
