What tilesets do you use?
« on: May 19, 2011, 08:24:06 pm »

I'm browsing about for a tileset besides the default one, now that I've got DF working on a computer with a decently-sized screen. I can't stand a stretched/uneven tileset, since I'm terribly OCD about symmetry. At the same time, I like highly readable text and prefer ASCII. What do you guys use, and do you have any recommendations?

Check the tileset page on the wiki. Or just open the init file and change the tileset to the square version that comes with the game.

I use only vanilla now, but in the past I've used Guybrush Tileset/Dystopian Rhetoric Objects.

I like the Phoebus set
... due to the readability of the tiles and the new handy tileset assembler utility he added (even if it does fail to run on my XP system ;)).

Centration. Similar to Spacestation 13, but in 3D and first-person. Sounds damn awesome.

Same as me.
Guybrush and Dystopian were a great combination that worked well together.
However in the end I went back to curses, the text in ascii is just so much easier to read. Which is important for a game with so much reading.

I prefer dorten, because it's small, square, almost ascii, and has excellent rounding of smoothed walls.

DB_curses_12x12

Very nice and clear ASCII.

I used to play with Coaldiamond's tileset, which I really liked because it gave the game a Colonization-like feel. You can find a link to it on the DF wiki. Nowadays I am too lazy to install it and just go with the default.

Vanilla all the way now. Before it was Mayday but the vanilla tileset is always good to know. I might switch back if the wait between updates rivals that of 40d to 2010.
