Okay, so you ca see where we are, I made a map. Green is us (Volgograd=Stalingrad's new name). Maroon is Kiev, the nearest friendly city. Red is the estimated front line.
Now, as you can see, going to Kiev means crossing several hundred kilometers of ennemy territory and crossing the frontlines. Moreover, since the Red Army is on the offensive, Kiev may be Soviet by the time we get there.
So, basically, if we want to go that way, we need to start disguising ourselves as Russian an pray nobody notice us.
Now, my proposal would be to go South, through the Caucasus. We can always get back to Germany afterward. Sure, it's nearly as long, but much less populated, and we don't need to cross the frontlines. Also, since the frontlines are so far away, there shouldn't be that much military personnel left.
Both way, it's still a good idea to steal Soviets uniforms and look for Soviet rather than German gear.
P.S. And here's a map of Stalingrad. There is no USSR square, so I assumed you mean the Red Square.
Good work, and I know there is no USSR square, I didn't know any map of current day Volgograd so I was working on a fictional plan I was making in my head. After all, this is the remnants of the second assault of Stalingrad. We'll work by this map, assuming there hasn't been a revolution in Greece or Turkey, yet.
You ask about the squad to see if anyone can speak russian, they can't but in these uniforms there is no chance of blagging their way past Soviet Men.. or Fish.
It is the beginning of Winter, nobody is sure of the exact date but they do know it was a couple of months since they left Kiev in Autumn.
There is a brief rush of sound from above as a German Jet Plane flashes over, heading West.
