No. We are not going to have the Industrial revolution. Guns haven't even been invented yet in this world, which pushes my expectations of such a technological advancment even lower. If it has not hit the fuc*ing floor already.

And just because we discover oil does not mean we can use it. I am pretty sure people knew of sulfur for quite a while before they figured out it could be turned into gunpowder. And we have far from enough technology to refine it for use.

No John, rare means 'Not found in large numbers' so that would mean it is unlikely.

Most gold is collected by plate movements and water. So the most likely place to find gold is along coastal mountains.

Is their not a coast naunt just a little while away from the mountains? And gold is, in fact, a common metal. Look it up. And, since it is common, and therefore "Found in large numbers", that means you said the mountain I am on should be loaded with gold.
In a attempt to defend your own argument, you have benefited mine.

And Taricus is right. Even if there ISN'T any gold, I have MONOPOLY on ALL the metal that is OBTAINABLE. 
I personally think I am on the streamline to success, and I learn from my past mistakes.

Right. Gold is common. We are just swimming in gold. Gold totally does not cost a freaking ton.

We abandoned the gold standard because it was too rare.

Still, a 85% monopoly is still quite a big part of the market. I could cut any players metal supplies to nil at a moments glance once I have the mines set up.
And honestly, I do not think that some coal and perhaps some other weak metal will match up to a large (Potentially limitless, really) supply of Bronze, Iron, or even Steel.

And cript, the land is simply not arable, it is not impossible to plant up here.

Hard, yes. But NOT impossible. I can also extort you with the precious metals. I can also destory the mines when hope for my survival is lost. And seeing as this would be late game and the demand for metal would be high, it would be pretty damaging to destory access to the deep metal reserves and my future factories.

And thinking deep right now, I could easily become a heavy industurial powerhouse from early on if I put myself to the task.
