And what does the lemon gas do? Set shit on fire? Is it like chlorine trifluoride?
It kills the whole dwarf. That's 65% more dwarf.

Chlorine trifluoride sets EVERYTHING, including sand, water, and asbestos, on fire, and as a byproduct it makes hydrofluoric acid, which melts flesh faster than nerves can transmit pain and reacts with bones to turn it into poison. The only non-dorfy thing about it is that there's no magma included.

You'll have to provide warm, moist kittens at the end of each test chamber.
Dwarf Fortress:
Where 9% of your town is casualties, is good.

Cacame's Fort.

It's treated as completely normal because this is Dwarf Fortress.  There's absolutely nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with a wall of flames, only to later realize that you're surrounded by a wall of flames.
There's nothing that can't be solved by hurling fifteen roc birds at it.

Cacame's Fort.
When Cacame died, he went to Hell for the slaughter of his kin. Then he enslaved the demon race of every multiverse and began his conquest of dimensions!

That's why the demons rush out of Hell. They try to either escape Him or they are trying to serve Him.

This is Dwarf Fortress. Where torture, enslavement, and murder are not only tolerable hobbies, but considered dwarfdatory.

the bottom floor is not there, tested when I ghost a creature down below.
Toady only coded slade to be the bottom zlevel so mining that out would be either logically slade floor, open space you can float on but never fall in, or chasm.

Underneath the HFS, there is a tear in reality at the center of the Dwarf Fortress planet... which is what created the HFS in the first place.

What will be on the bottom (and magic in general) will be procedurally generated. Now, a question to UristMcVampire: Why did you bump this?

I'm surprised that people don't know the answer to this, because I thought it was well know.  Below the HFS are turtles.  It's turtles all the way down, but if you look at this infinite stack as a whole, it's actually a Smalltalk implementation.

Some worlds post-mythgen will probably have turtles at the bottom! Imagine mining cosmic turtle shells to make heavy but extremely strong armor.
