See if you can ally Castille or Venice as well. They generally have a strong fleet in the Mediterranean that can help against the Ottomans. Plus, Castille is useful against France as well. England can be useful in this regard too, but they tend to get tied up in stupid wars that may cost you stability or prestige no matter what way you turn it.

That sounds like a much better plan than my idea of 'go conquer minors in Italy'. France and the Ottoman Empire; bad, random German states, Hungary and Castille; good. How about Milan?

Is there a set option to brine electors, or do I just send their nations 'gifts' to bribe them into voting for me? Anyway, I'm going away over the weekend but I should be able to get some playing done and write a good update.

Send them gifts to keep relations high. Remember that electors will never vote for someone they see as a heretic (protestants vote for protestants, Catholics for Catholics, reformed for reformed.) You must answer calls to war in defense of the empire to gain authority, and failing to do so will tank your relations with the electors. You will be at war often.

Every time you win a defensive war waged against one of the HRE subjects, your relations with all the electors will increase (as well as imperial authority).  This is a very inexpensive way of getting you the last bit of relationship boost, but use gifts freely if your relationships are deteriorating too far with the electors and threatening your re-election.  Three of the starting electors are kingdoms, get a royal marriage with all three before marrying anyone else.

Fucking Castille... Sorry, I was just playing as England/Great Britain.

Amyway, I sorta dun goofed over the weekend... I had this nice Conquest Causus bellia kicking around on Milan, and they were sorta weak ATM, and I might have sort of accidentally conquered them a ceased half their territories, resulting in a massive prestige penalty from 'unlawful Imperial territories' or some such. As well, Hungary has decidedthat it sorf of hates me and I fought in  brief crusade against the Ottomans that sort of ended poorly. I can't seem to fight a war against an opponet any bigger than Scotland... I can fight them if I'm the same size as them, but if you scale it up, suddenly I bugger everything up. Images of our current situation tomorrow.

EDIT: Voila! Utter noobfail.

Should've released Parma and Mantua as vassals, cut down on unlawful territory.

You cannot hold any territory in the Holy Roman Empire that is not a core of yours without suffering penalties for it. Protection of the status quo is sort of the entire point of the Empire.

Check the Imperial Map Mode to see territories of the Empire.

I caught the map mode, but I wasn't sure what exactly being in the empire entailed... Anyway, I managed to force Holland into a personal uniioon, but I forgot to turn FRAPS on, so it's story time tomorrow.

King ALbrecht IV von Hapsburg sat in opulence in his winter palace in the city of Vienna. The fire burned brightly but did not cast adequate light for his aging eyes. He felt a serious headache coming on as he stared at page after of numbers. Don't I have people to do this crap for me? A knock came at his door. He glanced up wearily.

'Come in.' he said in a distinctly irritated voice.

His Master of Spies entered. A small man in nondescript clothes, he wore a mustache that was currently in style, but he did not wear it well.
Just as would the minor nobleman he pretends to be. 'Sir, I have news on the situation in Holland. It seems that your nephew cannot force his claim without your assistance, but should you provide some muscle he feels he can win the war quickly and force a personal union. Of course he demands that you name him Duke of Tirol for his troubles.

'Do you feel that he really needs the title, he'll be the ruler in fact if not in name in Holland anyways? The fool is only good for bringing us this land, not for any ability of his own, beyond knowing how to carry on the line, and he seems to do that a bit too well.'

'Well, I can remind him of his position...'

'Excellent, you will march with our army, make certain he knows in no uncertain terms that he will never attempt to blackmail me again, or he'll end up floating in one of those dikes surrounding him.'

---

The faceless Master of Spies arrived in Holland with the army, as they deployed for battle he travelled inland and deep into the Dutch heartland, looking for Alphonse, the hapless nephew Albrecht had sent him to.

When he found him than man had holed up in a palace in the country. He entered through a servants' door and snuck through the passages until he found the more opulent section, where he began checking rooms. When he spotted Alphonse he ran in and placed a knife at his throat.

'Your uncle said you better never try anything like that crap over Tirol again you'll end up, what was it? Ah, yes 'face down in one of those dikes all around you.' Understand, your life is his, or it's done.'

'Wha... Yes.. Of course, whatever you say... Is there anything you need?'

'Just do what he said.' With that the Master of Spies vanished out the door.

If you want a tip, make multiple armies of around 10,000 spread through out your territories.  Keep them in the center of large sections so that they can get to most provinces in their area easily. Its great for rebel control and defence. As for offencives, I recommend secondary armies or mercs. Also, don't ball up all your armies into one blob of offence. Make a number of armies of a number of attacks across your enemies territory at the same time. And wait for your military tradition to go WAY up before hiring a general. Like at 50 or 70. I hired a general when I was at 60, and he had 5 shock and 1 maneuver. That was nice. (Ironically (Or not, I am not sure if this is Ironic.) he died in a province named "Nice". DAMN YOU CASTILLE! DAMMMMNNNNN YOOOOOOOUUUU!!!!)

I did it, and now I own and work fine with the lower half of the Balkans. I also caused the fall of the gaint maroon blob called Hungary. Alas, I (didn't) knew thine well.

I've got 9k sitting in the middle of 'Austria' and about 11k in Holland, for if they try shenanigans when my ruler dies, but I'm soon downsizing it.

The first reform is the only one you want to support unless you are or are certain to be Emperor soon.
