((Important note: the fortress has not fallen... yet))
[This sheaf of paper was found on the ground near the fortress entrance, covered in blood. Overlord Mallkomm's body was sprawled nearby, stabbed through the heart.]
%% Sometime in early spring, a caravan from Leenkis arrived. The representative was killed on sight by accident, the kobold military assuming he was a wandering raider. Traded: some random stuff for some stone.
%% Sometime in early spring, a cave-in killed [?] a miner during the attempted excavation of more farms. Only one was completed.
%% Stlulufrokis the Bowyer was taken by a strange mood and went insane (due to lack of appropriate workshop?) sometime in the spring. Date unknown - somehow the paperwork got muddled and now we aren't sure when it happened. Exactly.
%% Stlulufrokis died of thirst on the 21st of Hematite, summer of 202.
%% During the spring, some twisty little passages were dug.
%% In the beginning of summer, two caves were dug off of the lower level - workshops - to be used for storage. The smaller was reallocated to nest boxes for the fowl.
%% Sometime in the spring, the overseer ordered creation of a few seperate working areas to be used for trap production for his pet project - the twisty little passages of tortuous death to prisoners.
%% Sometime in mid-summer, the twisty little passages were expanded into a long, twisting passage, designed to be trapped and have prisoners walk down it, or to be turned into a "gauntlet" of armed kobolds.
%% On the 18th of Malachite, Sloshlalmus, a wood burner, was taken out of his mind by fey forces. I looked into his past, and it seems he was a skilled glassmaker before he came here: I fear he wishes to work with glass. Alas, there is no sand anywhere, except mixed in some of our soil, and that is not pure enough to be worked, I am told.
%% On the 19th of Malachite, a ghost made its presence known; I am told it went by the name of Ploshlolmus when it was alive.
%% On the 20th of Malachite, one Lramer reached adulthood.
%% On the 22nd of Malachite, one Pathrilbis reached adulthood.
%% On the 14th of Galena, another caravan from Leenkis arrived.
%% On the 15th of Galena, a carpenter who had accidentally got walled off during the construction of the Twisty Little Passage died of thirst.
%% Some time after, negotiations began. Requested three kinds of seeds, shovels, rock salt blocks, and limestone.
%% The trade with the caravan was as follows: some wooden crafts and a couple of caged birds for some stone blocks.
%% On the 18th of Galena, construction of two small fortified huts was completed.
%% In mid to late summer, there was an abundance of goblin snatcher attacks. Three (so far) were captured in cages; the cages were installed in the waiting room of the Twisty Little Passage.
%% On the 3rd of Limestone, Chringus the miner gave birth to sextuplets.
%% On the 3rd of Limestone, Sloshlalmus grew so sad as to be beyond all hope.
%% On the 17th of Limestone, Tlabafralmus the cheese maker gave birth to sextuplets.
%% On the 18th of Sandstone, Strigibipadin the soap maker gave birth to quintuplets.
%% On the 5th of Timber, Sloshlalmus the wood burner died of thirst after being possessed by unknown arcanus forces.

INVASION! They're everywhere! I've drafted some citizens into the military, but they're dying right and left. I resign. I can't do this. Maybe someone will be able to save the fort. Maybe not. I'm heading away into the forest and hoping the goblins don't catch me. These could very well be the last words I ever write. May the divinities have pity on this miserable place.
**Begin OOC:
So, that's basically what happened. Some civilians have been drafted into the army; a few died. I don't feel capable of handling this. There were only 3 or 4 soldiers when the goblins arrived, and those were quickly defeated. It's late autumn. We have 69 living citizens.
I had a lot of fun playing this fort; I hope that someone more competent with the DF military than me will be able to save it, or lock it down, or something. I apologize for getting us in this mess, I should have improved the military during the year. Here's some notes for the next overseer:
-- There's a new hospital cave above the main fort (the first excavated level). It's already set up.
-- There's a long, and twisty, little passage. It was intended to be trapped and used as a prisoner execution device. I know, I know, I could have thought of something better…
-- On the lower level, there's some new workshops I created to support the trap-making effort for the twisty passage. There's also some big wood-storage rooms (I cut a LOT of wood) and a room with nestboxes and an egg stockpile.
-- Beneath that, a memorial slab has been put in the round, empty cavern. Future overseers might see fit to turn it into a tomb/memorial area.
-- Beneath that, the offices and bedrooms have all been reassigned to the (now-dead) Overlord Mallkomm.
-- There's some farms dug out of the top level and channeled for light. The exit of the twisty passage, the one the prisoners will want to reach, is also there. That was the sight of a fatal cave-in as well.
-- On the surface there's two walled areas with fortifications facing to the right (IDK which compass direction that is), intended for marksbolds.
-- There's three or four captured goblin snatchers in the cage stockpile. Have some !!fun!! with them. Kobold style.
-- Like I said, a ton of wood has been cut. You have resources for the creation of a fairly large wooden structure and/or a large number of wooden traps or crafts ready to hand.
-- As should be obvious, there's mass slaughter outside, with a few goblins cutting down my impromptu military.
-- I don't think there's any immediate, pull-a-lever way to seal off the fort.
-- I think there are traders outside. If the gobbos kill them, you've got some juicy loot. They were the third caravan from Leenkis.
Overall I did a pretty bad job at overseeing. But I did have fun!
Here's the save:
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=4736Oh and if the fort is unrecoverable we could always rewind time and make up some fancy backstory with powerful wizards involved to explain it away.
Last note: it is actually just autumn, but I didn't feel like I could handle this. Sorry for any inconvenience!
