The titling system: How does it work?
« on: May 16, 2011, 05:02:47 pm »

I used to think the titling system was completely random, but now I have an adventurer with the full name and title "Putnam Musicaldabbles the Frosty Dragon of Coldness". That title sure does have a theme to it: cold. Did I somehow gain a sphere of influence over something, or is it just a badass coincidence?

I only see two cold-related words in there, so yeah, probably just coincidence.

Of course, there's the possibility that the game respects civilizations' symbol restrictions for naming (the reason you don't see elven retreats with "anus" in the name), and that you're playing some modded creature type that is more likely to have cold-oriented names... but I doubt it.

For an example of the naming system being used in a not-totally-random way, though, check out deity names; they're usually amusingly appropriate.
