Wiki (and now Darvi) says around/over 200 damage per coin.

One copper coin does somewhere around 30.

If we calculate out how much potential damage a platinum's worth of damage in copper coins is, we find that using that many copper coins would deal about 30,000,000 damage (not taking into account either crits or armor reduction, let alone ammo conservation).

Now, if platinum coins did 30,000,000 points of damage, you might actually consider using them.  But they don't.  So don't.

Whoa.
Talk about cost-ineffectiveness.

I noticed that they still haven't fixed the coin bug where if you put a coin stack in your trash slot it doesn't drop on death.

Yeah. Not 1 single hive.

Cost effectiveness and combat effectiveness are two entirely different concepts. At a damage per shot rivaling the Sniper Rifle, and a rate of fire faster than the Uzi, a Coin Gun shooting platinum coins is the most deadly thing out there. Even shooting copper coins it does 45 base damage.

And by shooting about four copper coins, you're doing the same damage at a price 250,000 times cheaper.

Platinum Coins: for when you absolutely, positively, must kill everything in the room four times faster.

FTFY Platinum is not easy to collect. Copper is.

The cost is not the point. Consider the amount of time and resources you would use to gain access to a next tier of weapon or armor, which normally is an improvement of only a few points of damage or defense.

If you are swimming in money anyway, and need something killed fast...

Spectre Armor and Golden Shower and 4 Platinum coins. Consider the time I'd have to spend to get hundreds of platinum.

I noticed that they still haven't fixed the coin bug where if you put a coin stack in your trash slot it doesn't drop on death.

You can also hold an item (like if your moving it in inventory or trying to place it) and it will stay when you re-spawn I believe.

Two minutes.

Five, if you haven't got TInvEdit yet.

Nope, that got fixed.

Could someone explain how surface mushroom biomes work? I'm in hardmode now, and I can't seem to find a clear answer.

Do I just need to get 5 quintillion seeds or something like that? Or is there a faster way? I've heard something about linking to the surface, and I've heard something about linking jungle, then mushroom to the surface? I know there's a Biome gun, but still.

I need answers.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.
