Actually, can't you use the Rod of Discord? (teleport staff)
Unless yuo acquire it IN that dungeon or the walls are too thick for you to fit a spot to TP to. :V
I haven't tried it. If you get one, test it out

Seems like the rod doesn't drop, currently, after some searching. So that'd nix the "legit" aspect.

Technically you could get into the temple if you got your hands on a picksaw without going in (say, someone brings in the altar and a few summoning items from somewhere else) first, but that might not count as legit, either :P

Should I assume that all these temples and pyramids and living trees and whatever else are all supposed to be above ground? Because if so, I have generated a large world that does not have any of these.
The temple definitely isn't above ground. The pyramids usually are (at least a little), but apparently may be somewhat buried, too. The trees should be on the surface, though, yeah. They're the big ones.

The temple is always in the underground jungle. Pyramid may or may not be buried, depending on how derp your desert spawns but usually visible.

Yeah, temple's usually a bit below the start of the magma layer of the jungle. Pyramids can be really annoyingly buried, if you're specifically genning for them (or giant trees with the wands), just get a worldviewer and check for them like that.

You CAN use it to get inside.
Except that I got myself insta-gibbed by a wall of arrow traps. (cheated the rod in with a 100-HP pre-1.2 char)

But hey, cheating for science is fun!

My 1.2 world doesn't have any living trees..
They're somewhat random, though not especially rare.

Christ... I was barely equipped to fight Skeletron, but I started anyway. Then, when I got Skeletron's hands to about half health, the Eye of Cthulhu awoke.

Why were you worried about his hands? Burn that skull down!

I had something similar happen very early on, where I was stuck fighting the Eye of Cthulhu and a goblin army with copper armor and a trident. It was surprisingly helpful to have the goblins, actually... I probably wouldn't have been able to beat the eye without the spike ball things. Didn't get a harpoon though, which would've been amazing.

This is a cool update. I don't think I've played terraria in years, but it looks like almost everything has been improved.

Even without the demon pick, I manage to breach the magma with bombs. Expensive as hell though.

It isn't guaranteed to spawn in an underground jungle, is it?

...Because I cleared my whole darn underground just looking for it. And am quite dismayed to check the minimap seeing. . .
