Actually, sky island backwalls count. I've had NPC's move in there... somehow...

I'm pretty sure the difference is whether enemies can spawn on the backwall. Dirt and hell, yes. Sky island house, no.

Wait, what? My impression was that game-placed backwall didn't count no matter what. Maybe that's something the update did.

Shroomite armor seems more like a "deploying turret mode" type of ability.

Now, does anyone have any idea on how to fix my scrolling problem? Basically I cannot scroll through the toolbar unless I spin the wheel very fast, but even then it only goes one space in either direction. It's making fighting bosses VERY hard.

Wait, you can scroll through the toolbar!? I always just used hotkeys.

The treasure rooms in Living Trees count as valid housing, too. Found a living tree next to my spawn, with a room complete with vine-covered table and chair (and a chest). Placed one torch inside and the Guide moved in immediately.

I...didn't even know that Living Trees were a thing. Haven't seen any in this world or any others yet.

Living trees are really fucking huge, they're like 5 blocks thick and you actually need to dig them with a pick, not an axe.

Well, I did a fly-over of this world with my hardmode character and didn't see anything like that at all. So I guess I'm out of luck :/

For what it's worth, I've found ~4 giant trees in my (large) world. Only one of those was a full-fledged Living Tree, meaning a hollow central shaft and a loot chest. And my world doesn't have a single pyramid (I only learned they exist through random wiki browsing), so apparently I'm going to be making some alternate worlds to get all the content.  :)

The loot also wasn't amazing - a Living Wood Wand, which lets you use wood planks to place a nice-looking organic wood block. Besides blending quite nicely with dirt, does nothing of value. Also, there's apparently a second possible wand, which spawns leaf blocks, so I need to spawn a few more worlds to get one of those too.

Torch. You placed one. The room is big enough and already comes with a table and chair.

............. Yep. That's it. I forgot what the room requirements were. That explains why only 2 of my 4 islands are valid (the ones I found at night).

Gold/silver/etc backwalls are purely manufactured.  Dirt backwalls are natural.  This is why you can build suitable housing in dirt and have it fail, but when you remove the dirt and place new dirt, it's valid - the game actually tracks the difference between mapgen dirt and player dirt, and apparently does the same for obsidian.  Gold backwall is (apparently) assumed to be only player-made, and is thus always legit.

Yes. That's what we're talking about, game considers the room as valid but lacking furniture, while it doesn't consider other backwall types like obsidian in Hell to be valid unless placed by player.

So, in 1.1 saving and reloading the world while a whole bunch of water was on its way to hell would cause the game to settle it while loading and not evaporate it until the player caused it to start moving again. Is this still the case?
