We arn't talking about "Ohh once in a while I feel ill after I stop playing Terraria"

We are talking about "Everytime I stop playing terraria I feel ill" :P

Dang it people, stop justifying your addictions! :D

Best part is, no one is going to give me any leeway because I used the word "addiction" which to anyone reading it is inherantly bad. So I can just sit here all day and hear every reason why it isn't an addiction because "addictions are bad things" and "this is a good thing".

Now if it was less that/joking and more 'wow I just noticed that I'm 50lb underweight and have a hacking cough', it would be a problem

Which is EXACTLY my point.

Assuming they've only been playing for a day it could again just be illness. At any rate I doubt they like us having a gigantic derail debating their physical and psychological state, so maybe we should stop this before it gets out of hand. :P

It pretty much should have ended after I pointed out that the definition of "addiction" isn't nessisarily "drug, I would sell my mother, addiction from hell".

Though I didn't think I'd have to bring that out.

I miss the days I could start playing a videogame and then discover that I finished playing... after daylight the next day.

See, by those standards, I'd be addicted to pretty much everything I do, as I tend to give things my full concentration, so I can very easily sit down and glance up a bit later, only to notice that 14 hours have passed, regardless of what I was doing.

OT: Finally got around to crafting the last two Light Discs. All done grinding, now I get to finish my airship and play with magic glowing UFOs.

I have pretty much played Terraria the entire last day... kind of scary. Although, it's the playing with friends angle that I guess makes it this addicting.

You know, it might just be motion sickness. Lots of pixels moving about and all that, you might be fine for hundreds of other games until you play one where the pixels move juuuust right to make you feel sick once you stop playing.

Spoiler: Re: Addiction (click to show/hide)

@Levi: how much water have you had today? It's easy to get dehydrated without noticing. Hell, I'm dehydrated right now and I only just realized.

OT: Finally killed the Eye and Eater with my fresh character! I don't know why it was so hard this time. It seriously took like four tries. I guess building an arena got a lot more essential since the last time I was on the boss-farming tier.

I found them easier than before :p (fresh character too). The eye is easier to kill with a bow in my opinion (and a space gun+meteor armor makes him too easy). The eater is easy if you're lucky and get a vilethorn before he spawns (you'll need mana though), and if you have a flail and half decent armor, you can just grapple the ground, keep your mouse clicked at your feet, and he'll kill himself on you (the hp drops when the segments die are enough to sustain you at full health). For both bosses, it's good to have a flat area but not completely essential.

The last time i played (a couple versions ago), i found skeletron to be a pain in the ass, but this time i killed him easily with just a meteor armor and a space gun (way more economical than last time when i used a minishark+shitloads of ammo). I did prepare a nice arena to fight him though (i had nothing better to do while waiting for the night to fall). The dungeon is easier than i remember it too (although having to wait for gold keys slimes to spawn is annoying), and hell is a walk in the park once you have a stack of obsidian skin potions.

About the reforge thing, i think that if you have two of the item you want to upgrade, it's easy to just reforge the worst of the two until you've spent your budget, and use the best item. This way you don't risk your "godly" item when aiming for "legendary" for instance. Of course it's harder to get doubles of some items like night's edge, but that's the price to pay for playing it safe.

Finally unlocked hard mode tonight.  Love it!  Have died a few times already with my mediumcore character, and seem to have lost a couple items along the way.  Had to orchestrate a minor rescue mission for my equipment at one point.  I'm loving the survival challenge.  Wyverns are insane.  My first hard mode blood moon was epic.  I happened to be passing through a large corrupt desert area when it was announced.  Within seconds, I was backpedaling while firing frantically on a horde of dozens of monsters, a couple of types I'd never seen before.  I magic mirrored out at the last second as the last couple floating eyes finally had me cornered with low life.

Hardmode is better in every way when compared to normal mode. Too bad I won't be risking my hub world because of the dreaded clowns when the bloody moon happens.

Eye of Cthulhu: 0            Sir Urist: 2

The Eye was a lot easier than I had thought it would be. I chugged a regeneration potion beforehand, and I'd managed to dodge enough of his attacks that I only has to waste two healing potions. Ironically I killed him faster with my bow and arrows than with all the throwy weapons. Maybe I'm just used to how the arrows move, or maybe a golden bow + flaming arrows is just simply more powerful. On my first attempt I took about 6ish in-game hours to kill the Eye, using the throwing weapons to lower his health by a half before killing him with arrows. Second attempt with only arrow took only one in-game hours.

With my demon sword I no longer have to worry about those flying Soul Eaters, so I'm currently exploring the chasms in the corruption. I found 2 heart crystals, so I'm up to 140 health right now. I also smashed a shadow orb thing and got a musket. It was kinda crappy though (Reduced knockback and criticals or something) and I liked my demon bow, so I sold it. Now I'm one step closer to the minishark. Smashing the shadow orb also caused a meteor to crash somewhere, so I'll have to look for that too.

After digging out several rooms for all the new NPCs I got (Damn it Arms Dealer, that room is for the Demoman!), I'm getting ready to fight the Eater of Worlds. I'm going to do some mining for some silver or maybe even gold armour, smash another shadow orb, and maybe loot some stuff from the meteor. Oh, and grind the Eye for money, ore and unholy arrows.

Any tips on creating an arena to fight the Eater of Worlds? I know that I'm supposed to sink it into the corruption, so that it doesn't disappear, but not much else besides. Is it going to be like the arena I fought the Eye in? A stone box, with wooden platforms to jump around.

Just build a set of long platforms, stacking each other at the point where the normal jump peaks, making it reachable while being spacious.

Obviously, you're also going to need a lot of ebonstone if you're going to make the arena away from the corruption.

Werewolves are pretty cool, especially when you get mobbed by four or so whilst underwater.

Hmm, the Twins were a lot easier than I expected. A Megashark with Crystal Bullets makes short work of them, and so long as you focus on Spaz and take him down first, the other one deals pitiful amounts of damage when you have decent armour.

Destroyer is hilariously easy, and once you have a Flamethrower he's even more so. It just absolutely tears through him and his probes. Probably better to fight him in an enclosed space though, so you're not hit with all the lasers at once.

Skeletron Prime was the hardest for me, mainly just because of his health and just how long it takes to kill him. My main problem was either getting bored and losing attention, then dying, or running out of ammo. The fact that he disappears at dawn doesn't help either.

Well, the funny thing is that I don't actually play Terraria very often.  When I DO play I tend to play for quite a few hours straight though so maybe thats just it.

Being sick and something distracting you from it long enough to not notice being sick isn't really addiction. I don't even like Nethack that much and some years ago I played it during a bad stomach flu to prevent myself from vomiting all the time.

Heh, I used to treat my allergies and colds with Team Fortress 2 back in the day.  It worked really well.  :)

@Levi: how much water have you had today? It's easy to get dehydrated without noticing. Hell, I'm dehydrated right now and I only just realized.

I THINK i've been drinking water.  I usually at least have a cup of tea next me when I play.
