My cobalt spawned in hell and there were adamantite patches just near my cave home. I am pretty sure it's quite random (although weighted towards the described your situation).

I've found jungles to be a good place to hunt for hardmode ores; aside from the occasional skeleton or angler fish, the majority of the enemies tend to be original jungle ones, just more.

Like the time I lit up a cavern and saw around 9 hornets and 2 maneaters on the other side. (Cue laser rifle/demon scythe sniping through a single block hole).

I know shine potions are simple to make and stuff, but I would still like an accessory that grants light.

 So bad.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. In a humorously somewhat-related event, I died on the drop to hell. Like, on the way. Stupid underground hallow appearing RIGHT on it.
Also I was thinking if you saved the demon altars then you would be able to make more ores whenever you needed them but I'm pretty sure I would never be able to mine out all the ores in the world ever.

The jungle in my world is right next to a corruption. That probably means it's going to be a massive pain.

Duke: I heard you could equip mining helmets in accessory slots but I'm not sure how true that is.

You used to be able to put mining helmets in vanity, or could do full molten as vanity, and they would provide light and fire trails, but that's been updated to that vanity items no longer provide special effects.

Maybe holy arrows, but I haven't been arsed to actually make those and see how well they do, heh.

Think Starfury in projectile form with more damage.

Also they apparently turn into cursed arrows during a blood moon.

I know shine potions are simple to make and stuff, but I would still like an accessory that grants light.

 So bad.
The fairy bell thing seems to give out... about as much as the (now totally effing useless) orb of light used to. You, uh. Just have to kill a hardmode boss or two for it.

About the most luck I've had for light is just leaving autoclicker on while I'm toting a pwnhammer or flamarang or something along those lines. Which is bloody annoying and usually completely unfeasible in an actual fight.

So yeah, your best bet is probably just setting up a nice freaking-huge farm and getting yourself a good ol'30 stack of night owl + shine. Also, switch lighting to retro. The new stuff (and trippy) is nice, but it's considerably darker.

You used to be able to put mining helmets in vanity, or could do full molten as vanity, and they would provide light and fire trails, but that's been updated to that vanity items no longer provide special effects.
And, of course, molten armor no longer gives off any light at all, anyway :-\

E: I appreciate trying to make the game more atmospheric and pretty, but functionally it's just made it so we have to fight low-light conditions even harder than we used to. Gets in the way of things, bleh.

Did you know you can hold shift and it holds a torch in your hand?  And if you Shift+Click it places a torch?

The hardest of the new trio, in fact. You'll have to earn your way to gain efficient lighting.

Fun fact: Mining helmets exist and are perfectly suitable until you hardmode-ify the world.

I am currently rocking Mythril.

I kinda really need whatever boosts I can get, specially since the hardmode ore hats provide the class-specific stats.

Shine potion is the way, until you can kill the twins, the incredibly difficult duo, and the hardest of the bunch.

So. Mystery of what happens when you wipe out corruption (pre-wall) solved.

I'm not surprised. But one would think they could have at least put some text in there.

This. Why does anyone need more light than that? It's free, perfectly usable and can be done whenever. Plus it auto switches to a glowstick when needed and by positioning your cursor about half a screen from the middle you can pull a glowstick out to toss at any time.

I personally think they're going to need to buff the effectiveness of the mining helmet to make it worth ever using again when a much more practical option is so easy to use.

I wasn't asking for help bro. I was fantasizing about a better world, where a man can see the hands in front of his face at all times with no need for drugs.

I just spam cursed fire everywhere when I need light.

Edit: I know about the shift light, but it's highly context sensitive. You can only really use it for light when your cursor is far away from your character, because then it'll think you want to mine a wall or hammer a backwall or something. And the general annoyance of either being able to see anything or being able to do anything a-la Doom 3.

I'm okay with placing torches everywhere, but it can be problematic in a firefight.
