Has anyone tried lining the borders of corruption with a few clay bricks? That should stop it from spreading once the WoF is defeated.

New corruption gets spawned other places, in addition to the existing ones spreading faster.

But it would still stop the existing areas, right? Besides, one might get lucky and have the new corrupted areas appear in between two existing areas. Thus it would stay contained.

Perhaps, but that's depending on luck. Might be easier/faster to just make breech walls around areas you know you want to protect beforehand.

Perhaps, but that's depending on luck. Might be easier/faster to just make breech walls around areas you know you want to protect beforehand.

New plan then, dynamite the entire world out of existence and build an artifical city in the sky. That should stop the corruption.

Major caveat, specifically when dealing with corruption -- the corruptors' (upgraded spitting soul eaters) ranged attack spreads corruption wherever it hits, apparently. I've had sky islands end up corrupted because of that, so be careful if you've got corruption right up to your break. One wrong spawn and a dodged spitball, especially if you don't notice it flying off into your base, can send the whole thing to purple hell.

Haven't noticed any hallow equivalent to this, fortunately. Might be wise to preemptively hallow up the edges, just to prevent it from happening.

That won't help, though. Corruptors can corrupt hallow (witnessed this myself). Nasty little buggers.

I've been building my singleplayer home world base out of wood and dungeon brick, as those are immune to both corruption and hallow, and dungeon brick is immune to clowns. I have a few stone rooms which I either need to replace or need to change to grey brick (I'm assuming grey brick can't be corrupted - the wiki indicated that all brick was immune, but I haven't tested it, since the multiplayer server I was playing on accidentally rolled back half a week to before the WoF was defeated and had no backups since Terraria sucks at making backups, and I went to singleplayer as a result, and have not gone hardmode yet in singleplayer).

Oh god, I built a small elevator to one of the sky islands ages ago. Said island is now a floating pile of corruption, as is the whole elevator, it would of been nice to know how much quicker the corruption spreads in hardmode before killing the wall.

Pretty much the entire surface is now hallow or corruption, I dont have any clean surface desert or surface jungle :(.

You could try purification powder and isolating the locations with walls all around them and under them, perhaps. (Assuming that purification powder still works in hard mode)

Make a dome all around them. Or rebuild them in the sky? Hmm. Even then there's no guarantee that corruptors won't spawn inside...

Why bother trying to fight the corruption/hallow anyway? It's really, really way too much effort for what it's worth, plus it kinda defeats the entire point of hardmode. Plus, there's just something inherently awesome in fighting the forces of heaven and hell on my very doorstep, watching them send their armies, trying to convert my gray brick tower to their likeliness.

So... hardmode is too difficult?

Also we like our bases.  We put effort into creating a base of operations and we want to keep what we made.  We don't want to discard all our construction because the hollow decided "lol mine now.  umadbro?"  We'll fight for our shit, even if that means using picks instead of swords!

After my most recent foray into the burning depths (pre-WoF), I now have 40 hellstone bars. Just enough to make a single piece of armor of a single weapon. What should I make?

Current equipment: full demonite armor, demonite axe, hammer, and pick, ball of hurt, and a space gun.

Hellstone pick, first, then armor.  Then a bow if you're a bow user, otherwise a phoenix blaster.  If you're melee then stick with the muramasa, it's quick and easy.

I also have a crapton of meteorite bars. Meteor armor seems to suck defense-wise, so I either have to make weapons or sell it. Tempted to make a phaseblade purely for the nerd factor.

I've also come to the conclusion that I have to abandon this small, 1.61 world I started and move on to a big new world. I'm gonna be trying to bring everything along, it it'll take some time.
