Just stumbled upon some kind of house underground. Had two golden chests in it and a keg.

Also found a dart trap (with pressure plate) and a mushroom statue, there's probably something I can do with these. Time for some science

Steam has failed to update my terraria. Is there any way I can force an update?

Did you try running it first? mine didn't update until I ran the game.

Mine didn't update until I switched steam to Online mode.

I don't have steam changed to offline mode, but I haven't tried running it! Thank yah.

Well, the new update looks great, but it murdered my FPS. One of the prime things I liked about terraria is how you really didn't need to worry about your computer; it ran fine. Now I have to treat it like minecraft; cut all the corners I can to play at a decent FPS.

I've heard that changing the lighting to retro helps some people.
