Flatten the roof of the corridor and extend it with the bricks you get. Also I was able to kill him in Shadow armor with a flintlock pistol, but I am also not known for my dodging abilities.
Fun story: Every time I tried to kill him without killing the hands first, I died. So kill the hands; they're really easy now, only 600 HP and low defense.

Yo dawg I herd you like dodging so we put attacks in the boss's attacks so you can dodge while you dodge.

Translation: At least kill one of the hands. Having to dodge a skeleslap before you've landed from dodging the other one is annoying.

 Buff potions will also do you well, like stoneskin, and if you can't be assed to place a few torches beforehand the illumination potion is nifty.
