Method I use is a musket+meteor shot.  Move a bit, aim up, shoot, wait a few seconds.   If the bullet comes back and hits you in the skull, congrats! There's a floating island in the air above you!  Why couldn't you see it? Just look up! It practically blots out the sun, You nub!

EDIT: Last two sentences are a joke...obviously.

Problem: Skeletron too difficult for you with all but Hell gear.

Solution: Save for Star Cannon. Hit with 99 stars. The End.

Hey, do you guys have any tips for finding Floating Islands on Large Maps?
The simplest  method is to look at surface areas where the background soil extends above the surface as if a big chunk of blocks had been ripped out of the ground.

What? I have seen no such correlation.

I can confirm it in one case, but i think it's more of a coincidence.

This. But ONLY one time, and it was when there was a mountain so close to the island that I could see the vines if I jumped. Hardly "ripped out" of the ground, just had dirt walls.

Anyone else been having a problem with the game crashing a lot, especially when saving and exiting a world?  :-\

Deon you should get a job as their sprite artist. That helmet is awesome.

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

I got that a lot when I first got the game but it stabilized after a couple days. Have not played in a week so I don't really know if it got bad again.

I don't care cause I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me...

I turned myself into a monster, to fight against the monsters of the world.

I killed skeletron with Demon Bow + Cursed and Flaming arrows, + 40 or so lesser health pots. Demonite armor too (killed him after EoC and EoW).

Had a ball of hurt, but the DPS was turning out to be way too low for the risk. When I ran out of ammo, I'd switch  hitting him with my Breaker while collecting it back again.

I think the key to my success was setting up the arena - Built a tower on top the castle to catch arrows (technically not for the fight, it went to my skybridge and was going to be a skycastle). For the fight, I also flattened out the left side of the castle and then put four rows of wooden platforms. With that much mobility surviving actually gets pretty easy and he doesn't go underground so you never have to stop hitting him.

I didn't actually find him that hard, but I think I'd want to go in with more than a hundred cursed arrows or a better bow next time, it got too close to dawn for comfort after I started running out of arrows and had to finish him with regulars (Went in with a hundred cursed, 250 flame, came out with 13 regular or something like that).

Like the EoC, I didn't find the problem to me to be dying so much as running out of time. with a hellbow, I can assume it would be a cakewalk.

Also, easiest way to find Islands is definitely meteor shot, just shoot straight up occassionally and if it comes back down you've got an island, whee!

I agree, Deon that helmet is amazing. Why haven't you made a DF tileset?

That's pretty much exactly the same design as what I built to fight him, although I'm not sure how wide yours is - mine was wide enough that you could run across it to avoid him, as well as jumping down or up and then running under or above him. I also had doors on both sides, of course, instead of just openings - wouldn't want any monsters wandering in, especially while waiting for nightfall.

Of course, if you have molten-tier weapons, like a phoenix blaster (which has now been nerfed twice, so perhaps not so much), sunfury, etc, and high-level armor, and tons of normal health potions, you likely don't need to worry too much about the arena. You can just face him head-on and win by relying on high-damage weapons and healing potions. The sunfury, as with all flails, actually works better in an enclosed space than in an open arena - you'll be more likely to get hit yourself, but if you can take the damage, then it works out fine.

Wit' mah molten armor, flamarang, and balloon+cloud combo, skeletron killing these days is mostly just flattening the area above the dungeon entrance and running back and forth jumping over hands and heads. Don't really need to get fancy. Usually takes maybe one, two normal health potions. Just turn on autoclicker and keep the misses low, bugger falls fairly quickly. You rack up the most damage when he starts spinning, as you can get really close and keep just barely ahead, th'autoclick+rang'speed throwing out massive damage.

Even with molten-tier stuff, though, it's a pretty bad idea to fight 'im in an enclosed space. You take considerably less damage if you just hop yourself on top of the dungeon after waking th'fellow up. Between th'head and the hands, he can mostly fill that entire bloody entrance, plus th'head tends to float either above the ceiling brick or inside it, cutting off your ability to damage 'im for a bit.

S'kinda' amusing to kill the hands first, though. Poor thing just kinda' hovers once you've done that, in between spinning at you.
