If you can't deal with eaters of souls then why on earth are you heading to the dungeon? The dungeon has skeletor and his floating head of death.

Because sequence breaking.

 You can't really sequence break with this game, the dungeon contains a boss with 6000 health, and don't try to go in without summoning it, or else it's basically insta death.

At night it changes to a different curse. Or day. I don't remember which one, but you can make your way down to a chest or two before things get difficult.

Just gonna say that magic isn't as useless as it appears. Well, Flower of Fire is, but the rest are less so. Here are some strategies for magic use:
Vilethorn: Use against burrowers. It also goes through walls, so in PVP dig a little pit, cover it up, leave it unlit so it looks like regular ground, then shoot a few thorns up and out and you can probably do quite a bit of damage before they get to you.
Aqua Scepter: Hide behind a door. When a player comes up and opens it to kill you, spray them in the face and hopefully they'll get knocked back enough for you to close the door again. Doesn't work wif they have a cobalt shield though.
Water Bolt: EPIC for enclosed spaces. Spam a bunch of these babies and get out of the room.
Flamelash: Like Umi said, High resolution + Fullscreen = LOLOLOLOLCRUISEMISSILE
Magic Missile: Like Flamelash, except lame. So I guess it's LAMElash ahahahaha

Also HOLY COW Skeletron is hard. Surviving Hell is easier than him.
I was excited when I got down to hell, I saw this nice chest. Of course, being in Hell, I think "Wow, a chest in hell. I bet it has some godly (...bad word choice xD) awesome stuff! But of course it had Hermes boots (have three now), shurukin, and some silver bars. Could you be more useless?! (Aside from being empty.)

Where is all the stone in Hell? All I can find is Hellstone WALLS and BRICKS (with TONS of Crystal Hearts, first one I found has two on top, but I died while trying to get it. Breaking survival pattern = bad.) and ash. Where is all that nice stuff? (And Demonite is enough to mine Hellstone, right?)

I think of Starfury as more of a sword than a spell. Also, does the space gun count as a spell? It uses mana, but it's also a GUN.

Seriously though, who uses Starfury as a sword? It uses a good amount of mana for the time you get it, and the sword does about the same damage as a (Gold?) sword. Using it as a sword, except for at low levels with lots of mana, is near pointless.

And I'd count the Space Gun as a spell. It's fueled by Mana, after all.

Hellstone ore is in little red sparking patches in the ash in the magma flooded bottom section. Mining it can be very difficult because you have to avoid flooding your mining tunnels with errant magma and both imps and bone serpents are annoying as hell to fight in an enclosed mining space.

So true. Too bad it kind of sucks. But it is fun to muck about with against goblins when you have godly equipment and they all die in a couple hits.
