Yeah, Flooding hell would be a bit more impressive if it wasn't so easy as well.
I haven't had one world where I didn't dig a helltunnel.
Flooding hell is just a matter of starting your helltunnel in the sea.

Well, flippers turn the huge threat of drowning into a minor annoyance, but I still look forward to the day they add curly's bubble... 5 points if you get the reference!

Mmm. True. But you can easily make air pockets in water, while lava is quick death in most cases.

Though the "flood hell with magma -> make tunnels" idea sounds like fun. I'm glad I only drained an ocean into hell. And the caves above it.

Suddenly, a dreadful reminder of what happens when you don't save Curly.

Also, flippers mean you spend more time traveling up for air than digging the ore.

Lava is not nearly enough of a pain in the ass compared to dealing with the even larger pain in the ass of dealing with water to require such drastic measures. I'm usually good enough with the grapple to avoid a lava death, you gotta have it ready down there. Judging when you need to turn back for air and being knocked around by imp fireballs while oh god I'm drowning and just used a potions this is less than optimal.

I love to fly, be it from rocket boots or jet pack, but sometimes you need to let these things go if you want to save the girl, at least for the mean time.

Also, flippers mean you spend more time traveling up for air than digging the ore.

You still make full use of air pocket methods, but flippers do make for a great safe guard just to make sure nothing can go wrong.

But then you have to go out of your way through water just to get another grapple. It's a pain to take all that time right before facing a boss right there.

If I didn't have a guide, I'd have never figured out that I need to get into that particular nook from the water tunnels. Cave Story is fun, but difficult at times.

Flooding hell can be a problem but you can make it a hell of a lot easier if you tried.
Spoiler: For example (click to show/hide)
I admit that I haven't "flooded" hell as much as you guys probably have but how hard is it to sink, move slightly and then jump? From where I am, I am free to explore hell and gather as much hellstone as I like without much interruption though Bone Serpents are pretty annoying in close-quarters thus you just dig a large hole from time to time to fall back on whenever one appears.

That's a much lower water level than the usual flooding procedure though. It's a very chaotic mess and its hard to always close off the source to make sure things don't get too flooded.

As I said, I know that I haven't flooded it near to the limits you probably have but that is why I also said sink, move, and jump. I'm playing on a Medium world so I don't know if Hell is larger in height on a Large world but since water can't travel upwards wouldn't that design work on yours?
