GRENADES

Ever since Duke pointed out their existence to me, I have solved so many problems with judicious application of grenades. The Eater of Worlds was several of those problems. I'm not actually sure how well they'd do against the Eye.

Dynamite is fairly effective, as are bombs, provided you're good on timing it (and don't mind the large holes that it will leave).

Alright, I don't know if this has been talked about before but I thought I'd share it anyway.

I was experimenting with different ways of replicating magma on an industrial scale. I tried the standard pyramid stack, stairs, etc. But I found the best way to get endless magma is through exploiting the infinite liquids bug.

Basically this:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

What happens is that I fill one big tub with magma first. Then I make another tub underneath it and create a small pathway with a staircase connecting the two tubs. Then the second tub will fill to the brim and not a single drop of magma from the first tub will be actually used (or so it appears anyway). I just repeat this process and create lots of tubs. In that picture, the magma level of the topmost tub hasn't changed at all even though I used it to fill three seperate tubs underneath (though to be fair, when I was waiting for the magma to flow I was punting magma on that mini pyramid up there).

I plan to submerge the entire surface in magma.

AFAIK, that only works in multiplayer.

I just built my magma generator next to a large natural magma formation in a relatively safe corner of the underground. it didn't take much hunting to find a half dozen natural water pools to drain into it. I've gotten at least a thousand obsidian out of it and have not noticed the water or magma level going down.

O god I found out that breaking shadow orbs summons bosses. Didn't realize I was ready to fight EoW and the eye with only a gold sword and iron armor XD

And thanks to that I have discovered shadow scale armor.

Also, a tip for doing meteorites. The enchanted boomerang has insane knockback so if you use it on those meteor heads they will fly far back and will take a while to reach you. I mined an entire meteor this way.

Yeah, it's definitely infinite.

If I wanted, I could breach the bottom of the tub and I'm sure the entire surface of Terraria will be flooded with magma.

Take 3 dynamite. Kills meteor heads, and pretty much mines the entire meteor for you. Once the number of meteor blocks drop low enough, meteor heads stop spawning and you can mine at your own leisure.

Also, did anyone notice that meteors tend to spawn on the western side of the spawn? I don't think I've ever seen one spawn on the eastern side.

The very first one I saw was on the eastern side. And my current world has one each side.

Flooding it with magma though, can be beneficial. Bone serpents will still annoy you, but fire imps will never bother you again. All you need to do is bring loads of stone or dirt to make tunnels through magma to whatever it is you desire.

Sigh. Will I have to explain this every two pages?

OK. So. What are the problems in hell? Imps, Serpents, and lava. What is changed when you add water? The threat from lava which is easily avoided is replaced with the massive threat of drowning, and the slowed down movement speed, meaning you are more vulnerable to hostiles, meaning more death.
