...So the invincible form of Skeletron seems to be triggered either by a.) A little bit of time or b.) opening a treasure chest in the dungeon.

Either way, if you are quick enough, you can get nice loot out of the dungeon without dealing with any losses (if you chest your coins) and without fighting that dreadful skeleton with a copper sword. (Hint: All you have to do is click the item you want, and you will drop it where you respawn, at which point you can pick it up.)
If you have a hammer, and don't mind the time investment, he won't show up if you're not in the dungeon background.

My latest megaproject concerns research into lavaplication and lavapplication - which are the multiplication and application of lava, respectively.

The most successful design thus far is this:

The design at the top is a the standard two-cell repeating divider on top of a classic pyramid flow splitter set to deliver separate streams into the small-step liquid extender array, which multiplies the quantity of the original input at least four-fold. Meaning, you get as many full "tiles" of lava on the "out" end, as many times you clicked your button when using the duplicator up top.
Could you post a shot of the repeater up top?
It's manually operated, so it's not self-repeating. It just means you have to repeatedly click the two spaces as the flow splits.

You do at least get as much lava as if every click you made added a whole bucket of lava to the destination, with this setup. Instead of half a bucket every two clicks.

So I downloaded a world (called Warehouse) filled with nice stuff to play around with. I shall now make it my quest to get Starfury on my 'real' game. It's the most awesomest thing ever. Took me forever to realize that the stars flew WHEREVER YOU CLICK though. Only thing it doesn't do is kill people on the other side of a wall.

But as a dwarfy person, I think that an underground hotel is necessary. As soon as I get Starfury I shall just live in a ditch and kill things all night long from under them by making stars fall on their heads.

Also, how far up should I go to get to see some floating islands, going off of the depth meter?

It depends on the size of your world, but a 500 feet range should be a good bet. If what you want to do is find one (without the mapper tool), get some Meteor Shot. Just walk around and fire straight upward at regular intervals (every screenlength or half a screenlength should do). Meteor Shot should theoretically have enough range to rebound off the island's bottom and return within a second or two.

Obviously the underground jungle is too easy and must be buffed. [/modesty] I just went in there, five hearts, no armor save a shackle, and emerged with a staff of regrowth, flippers, materials for a thorn chakram (41 roses, exactly two full stacks of stingers), three vines, and one life crystal (EDIT: And 25+ gold coins). Now all I need is some silver for a broadsword and adamn hook, and I can go back in there for a blade of grass, more looting, an ivy whip, and the "cobalt grind."

I'm not breaking the game, just bending it.

I just redid the whole church thing. It's a bit more proportionate (the tower is narrower, etc), but I found the spawn point a bit lacking in coolness. I'm thinking some sort of necromancer's/Frankenstein lab kind of thing, using lots of dungeon spikes, glass containers of lava/water, or something. Ideas?

EDIT: This is what it looks like right now:

Obsidian bricks for the top steps, glass boxes containing magma for lighting, and maybe dungeon walls. Those are my ideas.

Make it a phylacery. Cobwebs and obsidian and candle.
Make a place that screams "this is where a person comes back from the dead".

Of course I use the map generator and the floating islands are all as far away as possible xD

Gotta replace that stone pillar right above the spawn with spikes.

It is such a massive dungeon... I'd think even in a HUGE world you would have to dig down to fit it all.

I actually started rebuilding the castle from Aria of Sorrow, managed to create the first 2 rooms and a teleporter room (just the brick blocks, obviously).

Got some pixel-perfect maps for that one and Symphony here: http://www.castlevaniacrypt.com
