:o If you build something on the spawn it explodes when you respawn. It took away the right wall of my house in the middle of the night. Not a good thing to have happen. It took me a few tries to get it where my house wouldn't get hurt at all after a respawn.

Normally I build a small box around the default spawn point, like so:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That way I can always remember where it is and never have to worry about telefragging my house.

The Eater of Worlds died to ≈70 spike balls and 50 grenades (I accidentally threw one and it blew up just before I took the screenshot). Holy crap, grenades kill him really effectively. They generally hit 3-4 sections at a time for 58 or so damage each.

...You know that's what beds are for, right?  Since beds take up space, nothing can be on top of one, so there's nothing to worry about.

Aqizzar, I don't have a bed yet. And I am having trouble finding the cobwebs underground to make one.

Also, I like that idea with the square. Would fit in nicely with my house as well, as I have a sort of 'elevator shaft' on the side of it (so I can get upstairs without worrying about flying things attacking me).

Yeah, I was talking to Imiknorris, since he clearly has been kicking around enough to have found plenty of cobwebs.  I'm actually a little worried about them myself, since I bundled and sold all of them as silk, and only now do I know you need cobwebs for Necro Armor.  I tried placing some around my place as decoration, but I kept knocking them loose during fights.

Finally bought the game legally (since waiting for the Piratebay guys to crack the newest release is for idiots) so I am now back in the multiplayer scene. Also, fuck skeletron. Seriously. The guy is about as easy to kill as a bugbear.

I'm still envisioning various traps. For instance, a variation of the common "bucket over the door" trap IRL can be recreated here. You just put a bit of cobweb right next to a door, put a bit of sand over that, and use a bucket to put some lava in a space above the sand. Make sure to leave a tiny one-tile space in the floor under the sand too, so that the flow of lava is not obstructed after it falls.

I'm guessing that's superimposed... otherwise, how do you open two chests at once?

So, I cracked a shadow orb. I got the usual chill down spine and meteorite has landed messages. I search my entre small world from left to right. I download the map viewer. I use map viewer. No meteor - What? I look up. Stupid meteor landed on a floating island.

I'm currently building a bridge off my floating island base to the east, in hopes of finding other floating islands.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It takes a lot of stone, and I'm going to need to mine a metric ****ton in bulk later to continue it.

It suffers from two design flaws, unfortunately..

1. It's not very smooth, so collecting fallen stars on it doesn't work very well. If you jump to grab one, you'll hit one of the blocks, and thus be slowed down temporarily. [When crossing with hermes boots.]

2. Enemies spawn like crazy on it. They practically pour from the sides of the screen when you're on it. If I didn't always use Cobalt Shield, I would immediately redesign it to stop enemy spawn.

It leaves me wondering though, how much wall is enough to stop enemies from spawning? Does it have to be an enclosed area filled with walls, or is there just a certain amount needed?

Anyway, any suggestions on how to improve my bridge design before I expand it another 4000+ feet?

Building it out of dirt instead of stone would allow you to plant grass on it, letting you collect mushrooms in addition to stars.
Leaving out the roof or keeping it right above your head would let stars land on it reliably.
Enemies still would spawn on it if there was no roof, but they're only a minor annoyance.

If you want to stop enemies spawning, you'd need to turn it into a tunnel. A person-height tunnel (three blocks of empty space, one stone tile above your head) seems to be mostly spawn-proof. Any stars that land on the roof are collectable from inside the tunnel.

There's just one problem: Any meteor that strikes the skybridge/tunnel is going to blast a hole in it and leave very little ore behind. So, you're better off either flattening part of the ground for mushrooms/stars, or building only a small skybridge for them, and finding floating islands another way (firing meteor shot into the air and seeing if it bounces back, for instance).

Awesome. Probably need two cobwebs and three tiles of sand to stop the lava from flowing off to the side, though, but the door should smash both of them when it opens, unless it opens outward instead of into the cobwebs.

Nothing quite like trying to make a sculpture of yourself out of stone from hell itself.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

All I have to do now is replace the stone building with solid gold. All done on FosakenIII's server, with a little bit of help getting the hellstone blocks.

On a semi-related note, has anybody tried building their town inside hell yet? This is B12 after all. My theory is that the NPCs might lower the spawn point enough that you shouldn't be attacked in the town.

At least I hope so. Having a Bone Serpent in my house wouldn't be very fun, although it would be very Fun.

Haha.  That really wasn't even a particularly good Photoshop job.
The background of the fake bubbles is offset by a block (Though even then, there's the problem of my character -- I would have to actually knock the background out entirely and make it a transparent blue overlay so that the different area of the building would show through correctly).

I can't seem to connect to any multiplayer server. I looked into my Network connections and apparently Hamachi only has access to local? Anyone know how to fix this?
