How did you get all the seeds???

LIKELY that person didn't

That person probably did what I did to get grass in my tree house (I had no seeds) and just created a temporary Mud circuit. Then they simply waited until the blue grass reached the right spots... then dug away the rest.

Just beat 2 eyethulhu at once with silver chainmail and leggings, gold helmet, musket, shurikens, gold sword and whole stack of potion.
The feeling of awesome cannot be sustained.

5. Bow, 900 arrows, 60 health potions, rooftop arena of DEATH!

That's been my basic strategy yeah.  I had a pretty good run fighting him in my "backyard".  A Gold Bow with Flaming Arrows does enough damage to one-shot his spawns, it's just a trick of not going mouse-crazy; it also does more damage than the Musket, so it's pretty meh to me right now.  I managed to get him down to 2000 HP last time, before my mousewheel turned traitor on me, rolled to Hookshot, and being stuck in place panicked me for enough critical seconds to ensue ganking.

In other news, there's a Meteor somewhere.  I think I'll fight my way to a Hellforge and protect myself from flames.  Ordinary enemies I can take, it's just that damn Eyeball that I can't handle.

Holy crap, I've already been playing for two hours, and I didn't even want to.

Almost beat Skeletron in the same night as Eyethulu. I would have if day hadn't broken 2/3 of the way through the fight. Managed to kill him on the second try though. Did both with a Thorn Chakrum I picked up in Jay's server. Proceeded to flood Hell. Why does Hellstone gear take so much Hellstone? I must have mined around 100 ore and I still don't have enough for even a helmet.

It doesn't... You have Hellstone but not the ingots.

You need to refine it with Obsideon.

My money's on the "spark of awesome" outcome.  There's only so many ideas a set team can pack into a game, and it certainly looks like they've got almost all of them in there already.  Considering, as Max demonstrates, a dozen or two hours of gametime and some luck is all a person really needs to have every item and see every boss, and you can even keep your stuff from one gameworld to the next.  If they don't crank out awesome shit on a weekly basis, "no modding" is going to mean "no replayability" for 90% of their customer base.

Of course, since the cover charge is all they ask, why should they give a shit if you're bored after a few days?

Anyway.  Broke my first Shadow Orb, and got a musket with no ammo.  Oh goody.  At least I know where some Demon Alters are now.  And Eyethulhu's back.  I swear to God, he shows up every other night cycle, and there's not a damn thing I can do about him.

Well, like I said, the source code was not built to be modded, nor was it made in a way that you could make it moddable. Not in the MC way where you give out source and let people go for it, nor the DF way where the game loads up data from raws. All items are hard coded, all in a single class, with no inheritance so you don't have a super class to extend from when you want to add your own item. It's a nasty piece of code. So to fix this and allow for modding would require a major overhaul, something I don't think Redigit has in him, from what I have seen. Modding just will not happen here, it is a pipe dream.

As for adding new content, well they might be able to keep it up for a while. They have a large fanbase all throwing out suggestions, and from that we can expect something interesting. They also haven't limited themselves to a genera, as we are seeing metal swords and plasma guns, so it's an 'anything goes!' rule, adding to the number of things they can add. Expect steampunk gear. But I wonder how manageable that is. The reason that design patterns in OOP systems are so very, very important is so that your code don't turn to spaghetti as you add new functionality, and the terraria code is already spagetti, so adding new content is likely to become more and more glitchy and take more and more time.

So yea, expect a spark. A wonderful, magical spark, that it would be a sin to miss, that will bring joy and mystery, but a spark. Redigit programmed himself into a corner, so I would say that a year from now the jig will be up.

Then again, Toady doesn't have programming qualifications, he could be working on spaghetti right now, and doing alright at it after seven years. But then again, he is a very smart, well educated man, and he has been programming larger scale games before DF, so he is more well versed in what to expect. He probably planned a bit further into the future.

And mind you, that's still not enough. You need 6 stone per bar, and 30/35 bars per piece of armor. That's 630 hellstone for a set of molten armor.

And don't get me started on the tools and weapons.

I'd like to make some exploration, but don't have the time/will to grind for the equipment. Are there any editors or cheats?

Killed Skeletron, plundered Dungeon (Blue Moon and Handgun turned into Phoenix Blaster, yay!).

Then I was testing the blaster, shooting into air. Suddenly it ricocheted off something down at me - and guess what, it was floating island :P Got shiny red balloon there.

It was nice game :D

A year? You're being very, very generous I think.

I would say without modding support, this game will be passed over by the time June arrives.

Well I said a year from now it will be over, but I didn't mean it will last that year. Some things go longer then others, some things go very well indeed, and I don't see long term potential without constant investment, but I could underestimate Redigit in he's ability to wade through code to add new items and fix the bugs, and he can keep this ship floating for a year.

For it is a nice ship. The mahogany finish is well rounded, and the brass fittings are shiny, and the sails have emblems of trees stitched onto them, but it will not float forever, not while the captain will not let engineers do their job for fear of losing control.

On the wild offchance that modding becomes possible and I am in a position to mod Terraria, I'm calling dibs on the name Betterraria.

Dam it! Best name taken already!
Terroraria; for when beating up bone serpents with a wooden sword, while underwater in hell is just too easy.

Eye of Cthulhu doesn't come with every night cycle, nor does he appear when you pass a certain underground layer. When you break a shadow orb, you either get the message: "An evil presence is watching you..." or "You feel a horrible chill down your back" (or something like that) The evil presence means Cthulhu will appear sometime soon, and the horrible chill means the Eater of Worlds will. This was added presumably to prevent people easily grinding orbs to gain equipment and stuff.

It is possible, unlikely but possible, that Redigit could extend the items out into a superclass structure, which wouldn't be reinventing the wheel in terms of programming tasks, it would just take a while.  But what does worry me is this supposed anti-modding attitude, which basically spells doom for a game of this type in this market.

Eye of Cthulhu doesn't come with every night cycle, nor does he appear when you pass a certain underground layer. When you break a shadow orb, you either get the message: "An evil presence is watching you..." or "You feel a horrible chill down your back" (or something like that)

Supposedly, this is also triggered by just killing enough Demon Eyes.  I'm inclined to believe that, since I first started seeing the "evil presence" message long before I even found a Shadow Orb, appropo of nothing but the many Eyes I'd slain.

Speaking of which, in the Land of Stars and Eyeballs: I went out star hunting and Eyethulhu decided to tag along, but I managed to haul ass to the perfect boss arena area, a big flat space.  If I didn't know better, I'd swear I met him during a Blood Moon, because I must have spent a third of the fight just warding off zombies and normal eyes.  I managed to whittle him down to about 600 HP, using my entire stock of Unholy Arrows and 250 Flaming Arrows, before he trapped me underwater.  I had basically stopped caring by that point, because it was futile with the sun coming up.  If it weren't for the constant mobbing, I probably could have taken him - I had a good rhythm going after a minute, but it just wasn't going to happen this night.
