Especially when you don't inform anyone that they don't stop until ~200 feet above hell

But, but...! Why would you do that? If they don't have the necessary skills to survive the fall, death should be swift and sure!

It's not like it's hard. There's at least four items (hook/vine, h.shoe, cloud) that can stop it, plus you can catch yourself with platforms along the side of the fall as you drop, even put your own cobweb down in midair before you hit (and then recollect it once you're slowed up) -- that one in particular is is a really nice trick. You can actually fit something underneath you mid-fall if you're quick about it. Maybe even carry a few water buckets around with you and pour them into a hole before you jump.

A spicy pitfall is better than some staid old easily survivable one

For looking at your generated maps in one large png picture, useful to find out where everything is.

This makes the construction that I thought was massive and cool like pathetically small.

Quick question: Does ebonstone count as "corruption" with regards to spreading/creature spawns? Because that might be a problem for my future ebonstone warp tower.

They spawn eaters of worlds, but I don't think they spread corruption.

Okay, when I breached my first cave system, I found a barnacle like thing in the background on the floor just without the tongue.
Whenever I attack it with my hammer, it damages me, halving the damage every time I hit.
Can anyone tell what are those?

Demon altar, you need them to craft... things.
Trying to nick them will kill you, so don't bother
