Errr.... What. Why would you skip the hamaxe because it's not made to deal damage? It saves a slot where a hammer axe would go, you can have the hamaxe and an extra stack of potions or something.
I was using The Breaker (Demonite Hammer) as my weapon at the time. 29 glorious raw damage, massive knockback, doubled as a hammer. I didn't have a sword in my hotbar, and the Waraxe of the Night is a reliable weapon in it's own right. So for me the Hamaxe did all three jobs worse than what I already had.
I have full demon armor, phaseblade, flintlock gun, demon bow, tons o shurikens, bombs, dozens of potions, and a bunch of magic stuff.
Then I got killed because the fuckwad didn't let me touch the ground.
The Shadow (Demonite) armor is probably your best bet against Skeletron unless you skip him. The Hellstone armor set has nearly twice the defense as the Shadow set, and Skeletron hits hard enough where the damage algorithm doesn't make that useless, but it requires you to spend a large amount of time in the underworld. Meteorite armor is easy enough to get, but it's only 4/5/4 for defense, and the set bonus (while useful for exploring) really just means you can use magic spells
almost as much as a bow with unholy arrows.
I'd appreciate that.
You can make background walls out of obsidian and/or Ebonstone, right?
And is there anything more elaborate than bog-standard wooden doors/tables/chairs, etc.?
I know you can make Obsidian Brick at any smelter,
so you should be able to make Obsidian Brick Walls too. I haven't found a way to make Ebonstone Brick or Walls yet, though.
EDIT: Just made an Obsidian Brick block to test, and none of the common crafting stations have a background wall option for it.
