I think all the inconsistencies are kind of cool, actually. It's a neat break from all those consistent games! At first you start out in a cutesy little world with your dinky-ass copper equipment, and suddenly you're fighting eldritch abominations (Wally in particular) all over the place, and the ancient spirits of good and evil are warring over your little world that started out so innocently, with you in the middle. There is a HUGE change from start to end, and if you ask me, that's a good thing. It gets boring if everything remains the same all the time. That said though, there IS a bit too much grinding involved when you want new gear.

I know have the software completely and 100% set up under linux!

...

And I still can't play, because my graphics card isn't good enough (to even work properly with linux, I need the real drivers and NOPE). Stupid unsupported piece of crap. :/

Actually, looking at the support forums I don't think I'd be able to play it on this machine with /windows/.

I need to get a new box bad.

Hmm, could you run the game before the lighting update?

Never tried to run it on this box before, so no idea.

Have you tried swapping over to retro lighting (hit F9 twice, if you can get in game), or is the game just not working? The new lighting lags like a frakking beast for a lot of people, but retro is much kinder on the hardware, from what I've seen.

Really, though, if it won't work on your graphics card, said card must be horrible. Just sayin'. Works on mine, and mine's an integrated piece of utter shite*.

I'm currently under the impression you can tone down the lighting, although all in all I don't think that is going to fix your problem. It is still using XNA to take care of the graphics, just changes the granularity that is processes on to save some performance.

To save a tremendous amount of performance. I think I get maybe 10-15 fps with normal lighting (tremendous chug, barely functions), but almost flawless performance with retro or trippy. If there's a button to show FPS, I could give some concrete numbers, there.

Seriously, the lighting change made the game almost unplayable for some people, while pre-change the game was very forgiving.

E: Though that's on windows, of course. Still, I doubt it'd hurt for getting the game to function better on a linux box.

Ah, thank you. So yeah, consistently ~20 (sometimes lower, sometimes up to 25) with the first two lighting modes, from 30 (in my base) to 60 (in a fairly empty area) with retro and trippy. I'd say that's some improvement :P

I'm having a weirder problem. My actual framerate is fine, but since the lighting patch, the game's lighting has been slow to update in higher resolutions. As in, if I'm playing fullscreen and whip out a torch, it takes a second to actually light the area (but there's no graphical or logic lag). On a small window it's barely noticable, but it still seems like a fixable problem. Again, my actual FPS is as high as ever. Can anyone offer any advice?

I do, but fiddling around with that yielded no results. Thanks though. Also: just noticed that in fullscreen, scrolling through the crafting menu responds sluggishly. My instinct is to assume that this is related.

Does continuously recrafting the same item yeild greater and greater rewards?

Because one of my items seemed to do that.

Nope. Prefixes gained from crafting are random. All prefixes are random. You got lucky :P
