You forgot to mention that spears can hit multiple enemies multiple times. I went all the way to hell using my trusty spear I found in a chest.

If you want a spear, the dark lance is also very strong in meelee range, again, with a decent amount of knockback.
The Dark Lance is a mining tool. See through caves with light particles that last like a second long in a game where other light particles last a fraction of a second.

About the only thing I require from the Xmas update is Yeti.

And omg those candy cane houses are offensive to the eye :P

I too am hoping that its a permanent biome. They've talked long enough about a snow biome, it'd be a bait and switch to just make it a two week textures swap.

The shotgun plus crystal shot is arguably better in close then melee users, and with the right setup, enchantments and a critical can kill 200hp enemy's in a single shot. At this point I'm not seeing the point of going full melee if you have the money to burn and make it Unreal.

Unreal (Ranged), Legendary (Melee), and Mythical (Magical) are all the best modifiers for items. It costs a heck of a lot of cash to do it, though.

Huh, I thought it was Godly. I mean, Godly sure sounds like it should be the best. Speaking of Godly, I found a Godly Pwnhammer. YEEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

In other news, I killed my first Mimic. Daaaamn it was a pain in the ass and I'm sure they're very rare but I got a sweet Precise Philosopher's Stone (could be better) and a whole lot of money, which is good because I blew a whole lot of it on ammo for my awesome new Murderous Clockwork Assault Rifle. It's like almost all my weapons are Murderous. My Demon Scythe, my Cobalt Sword.. all murderous.

Anyway I still can't find any mythril or adamantite at all but that's because I haven't been looking very hard. I swear though, it's like cobalt is greater than everything else. I already smashed all the demon altars I could find except the one near my house that I use to craft stuff, too. Question: what happens when you import a Pwnhammer and smash a demon altar on a non-hardmode world? Do cobalt and the others still appear? Does it become hardmode?

Godly is the best of the universal modifiers (the ones that can appear on any weapon). Look at the wiki page on reforging. Summary: The best possible modifier is Godly for tools, Legendary for melee weapons, Unreal for ranged weapons and Mythical for magic weapons.

You can't. Demon altars can only be kersmashed after the Wall is dead.
