Yay, I beat the Wall of Flesh! On my second try too!

First, I didn't realize that the WoF got faster as he got more damaged, leaving me in the precarious situation where my laser rifle is out of ammo and the WoF is literally chomping me to death as I can't run fast enough to get away.

Then I realized that all I needed was to max out my mana, an effort of about 20 minutes, and then I could buy as many lesser mana potions as I wanted from the merchant. I brought along like 100, and fixed the 'fast mana' button to R, so that I could be constantly running and shooting and chugging down potions. It didn't fix my speed problem, but it didn't need fixing if I could just kill him fast enough. By all rights though, my character should have died from some sort of magical overdose from all those potions. The human liver just can't handle it.

Got the Pwnhammer and an Emblem of Wizardry for my troubles.

Being thoroughly spoiled though, I then immediately bought some hallow seeds and then went about planting them all over. I believe I have already completed quarantined the corruption on my map by surround them with hallow seeds, and now the hallow runs free.

Debatably the hallow is more challenging than the corruption.  Lasersnails.

This so much, the new corruption enemies aren't that hard, its just annoying that the corrupters spreader corruption with their spit.

Hallow enemies are far harder and seem to pack more of a punch, the laser snail's lasers pretty much always hit.

Also I think hallow and corruption spread way to quickly, I'm currently abandoning the surface to build a bio dome in the sky (but below the wyvren spawn level), basically pretty much all of the jungle, desert and grass land is either corruption or hallow now, at night I have unicorns running outside my base, its a bit silly. I have stack of dirt, mud and sand and untouched stone and seeds, aiming to make a floating eden project sort of thing.

It's mostly personal preference. I like the hallow in the day a lot more then the corruption, all those corruptors flying around mess me up so quick.

Hallow is mostly brutal at night.

This is why I haven't made the plunge to hard mode yet. I fact, I think I'm going to need to increase the size of my buffer zones around my base. Dungeon brick is still pretty much uncorruptable/unhallowable, right?

I think neither biome can spread to ash, I've seen hallow spread through non-hallow bricks.

Actually, I've heard corruption spreads to mud (and turns it to dirt) but would the hallow convert my underground jungle?

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

I'm pretty sure that even if you destroy the corruption pre wall a batch appears after you enter hard mode, also I've found that wooden walls seem to be able to stop the spread of hallow and corruption.

Advice dont plant hallow seeds next to your base to stop that scary corruption thats getting closer, half of my underground storage is now pearlstone, as is the east entire east wall. I have pixies spawning in my flipping treasure room!

I've got the suspicion that there's no reward for completely removing corruption, but I'm going to try. Once I beat the wall, I'll use a map editor to find where the new patch spawned and go kill it off.

The biggest issue with post-wall seems to be that you invariably lose your base somehow, usually be having it converted into hallow-stuff.  Will it convert anything, or can I line my walls with some ore or something to hold the hallow at bay?

I don't think the Hallow can change anything that isn't dirt, stone or sand.

Yeah, it does. It seems to spawn a diagonal line of corruption from the surface all the way to the underworld. It does the same thing to the hallow too, and if they overlap the corruption overwrites the hallow bit.

Hey can someone be a real pal and write a very condensed "To Do List" that vaguely outlines all of the stuff one must do to get at the new content?  My friend's gonna be putting his server up tonight and we wanna start from scratch and get back to 'being done' as quickly as possible, without having to check a wiki to see what we need to do next.

So basically just say where we should be looking for the next 'thing' rather than describing what the 'thing' is.

Step one: Talk to the Guide.
Step two: Upgrade your stuff and check with the Guide what you can craft from each item labelled as 'Material'
Step three: Talk to the Guide. (Or other NPC's)

The stuff the NPC's say is usually quite relevant to your current progress, and most things open up gradually as you acquire more health and better gear.

Pretty much all the brick will remain untouched, from what I've seen, not just dungeon brick. Wood, too.

Most of the stuff in hardmode (at leas ton the surface) is fairly benign if you can stick it behind a wall (though possessed armors will open doors -- the old platform-on-inside-of-door trick fixes that.)... with two notable exceptions. That being the wraiths, which go through walls but are fairly easy to kill (slow, no ranged attack, about average HP for a hardmode critter), and wyverns.

Wyverns are a bitch if you don't have room to maneuver, though they're fairly easy to deal with if you can move around a bit. They noclip too, except they're huge (About the size of a world feeder, which is to say larger than a devourer), fast, hit like a brick, and have 4k hp. Think flying world feeder. Wyverns generally only spawn if you go up a bit, around sky island level, but sometimes they make an exception.

1. Go to Hell.
2. Fry an annoyance by demon-obtained proxy.
3. Shit yourself and die.
4. Come back prepared, kill thingy.
5. Get happy message, go to surface, get raped by laser snails and unicorns.
6. Talk to guide, realize you need to go smash an old fangy friend that you once couldn't smash.
7. Harvest the insuing gifts, make weapons/armor, use crafting help to figure out what to get.
8. Reach the point you can start summoning the hardmode bosses.
9. Summon one.
10. Shit yourself and die.
11. ???
12. Profit.

Some reactions may not be as extreme as described, but they give the gist of it.

1. Be looking for Demons in Hell carrying stuff in its claws. It needs to burn.

2. Be ready to fight for your life.

3. If you survive, go find those Demon Altars and pwn them.

4. Forge the new smithing tools with new ores.

5. Kill new Bosses to get their essences to craft all the new high end gear.

I think that's about it.
