Eater of Worlds is a bit at a disadvantage due to splash suddenly being an option. Grenades, Demonic Arrows, even melee weapons can be useful in that fight. You just need Ironskin to help absorb the damage later on in the fight.

New game, new guy, new world. Gosh, finding the wizard and the tinkerer is such a pain in the rear.

In a pre-1.1 world I defeated skeletron and explored the dungeon.  Found the mechanic right away.  Went in again, went deeper, found a dead end.  When I climbed back up out of the dead end, the tinkerer was there in the hallway.  Seems the tinkerer (and wizard?) spawn in valid area when you come close, so if you keep running up and down the dungeon you might find them all.

Looks like my prediction was right: Optimus Prime went down after about 2-3 minutes of running back and forth on my skybridge shooting at it, with an occasionaly jump to dodge. Total potions used: 3. I never went below 200 health, and basically used those instead of concentrating on dodging while I healed. It is really pathetic how the challenge disparity between the different bosses is even worse in hardmode. Oh well, I've got my flamethrower, wings, and megashark now. Time to set up a slime farm and then try again to take down those damn Twins.

I'm very sure that you need to defeat a goblin army before you can rescue the tinkerer. Not quite sure, though.

Has anyone fought the slime king? How tough is it?

Slime King is a wimp. Goes down pretty quickly IMO, and it can't go through walls like other bosses, which makes fighting it a cakewalk.

New question: if I mine all of the meteorite, will the Meteor Heads quit spawning? Two meteors managed to land pretty much side-by-side (in the corruption, no less >.< ), and I'm slowly clearing the stuff out.

Unless you're stuck in a tower with a few hundred of them because someone thought it would be a good idea to spawn a crapload of them.  :P

The middle of my home at the moment:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm reclining in the automated flamethrower ammunition factory. Below are the NPCs and hellevator, above is the tower to the skybridge. The exits are walls of dart traps activated by the floors in front of them, with the upper parts composed of active stone. Random spawns kill themselves humping the dart blocks, and I can open either set of wood and stone doors with a switch on the inside or outside. There is also a stone door in the tower, as I've noticed that there are spawns getting in from up there. All those chests are completely randomized, except the three for post-Wall crafting, metals, and mechanics.

Oh joy, a Blood Moon! Now I have insane numbers of Eaters spawning on top of the Meteor Heads!  ::)

Legendary Axe is being awesome here. I shall never sell it, and in fact I hope an update adds a display shelf so I can keep it forever.

EDIT: Oh, you are KIDDING ME  >:(

"A goblin army is approaching from the east."

I think I'm gonna be losing a few NPCs, unless I get back home in time to block off the doors.

2nd EDIT: The battle is over, though not without loss. The army arrived almost as soon as I did, and I didn't have enough time to block all of the doors. I died once, and the Guide, the Gunsmith, and the Dryad were all killed. My house also had a few holes in it from my wild axe swings. On the plus side, I got 195 spiky balls and a bunch of money.

Okay, so hardmode apparently becomes easymode again once you kill Skeletron Prime. Adamantite armor + wings + flamethrower pretty much equals invulnerability against all the non-boss hardmode creatures. Absolutely everything can be dealt with quickly and cleanly by hovering over it while flaming downward, even Chaos Elementals. 1000 gel got me 24 each of souls of light and dark from my last underworld trip, and I was never once in any sort of danger.

On another note, I saw two of those skeletal worms from the underworld spawn in the upper cavern layer for some reason... Either way, it was sad seeing them go down from a quarter second of flame.

I think the issue you are running into, Dice, is that the enemies are too close together in terms of danger. The normal hard spawns in caves are just as threatening as stuff you find deep in the corruption. The scale is very restricted. Perhaps the corruption enemies could be made harder still, or biomes designated as superhard which you'll need to flee immediately.
