You need to actually HAVE a phaseblade first, which Urist Imiknorris clearly stated he didn't have.

Ah, sorry to be the first person ever to misread something. I profusely apologize :P

The whole "Wall of flesh = hard mode" thing seems a bit silly, one could just go around to people's servers killing it, thereby fucking over the people who don't have god tier equipment.
There are lots of ways people can dick around a server. Just slap a password on and kick troublemakers.

So I find myself in a bind.

The patch notes say that, once you defeat the Wall of Flesh, your world goes hard mode. Corruption spreads faster and becomes unstoppable by any materials including sunflowers.

So...is there a point to removing corruption from the world? Because it seems like if you ever want to accomplish it, you have to:

a) play a small world

and

b) clear corruption before you kill the Wall of Flesh.

Because I spent probably 4 hours last night purifying corruption and it didn't even put a dent in it. 10 stacks of purification powder and several hours of digging didn't even knock down the corruption % by 1%. So yeah. If there's an actual point to removing corruption other than the satisfaction of doing it, it's an epic undertaking. I hope to find out, because I could go after the WoF right now...but I don't want my world swimming in corruption an hour later.

Hundreds of stacks of TNT might do it.

They should add a easier way to purify in SP.

Multiplayer.

Not an adequate solution IMO. They need to tone down the volume of corruption tiles. They're still geared towards the days when Shadow Orbs were practically end game content. They don't need 15-tile thick sidewalls, that you have to dig into to purify, anymore. Chasing down corruption spread through dirt is fun. Hacking/blasting/dusting your way through thousands of ebonstone tiles making sure you don't miss a single one is just busy work.

Also, I'm starting to wonder if the Ebon Walls count as corruption. Which would be total bullshit if they did, but would explain how the % doesn't move. There's no way in hell I'm removing some 200,000 tiles of Ebon Stone backwall by hand.

Purifying Fluid would have been a nice touch.

Inv editor > full inventory of x999 dynamite stacks + a day or two of free time. Corruption gone.  :P

Or, some sort of (as mentioned above) purification fluid, which could be thrown, and which would pass through non-corruption tiles. Of course, I think the whole point of post-WoF gameplay is to encourage the growth of Hallow, which appears to basically be anticorruption (think of the two as evil and good tiles in DF; both are abnormal, but one is explicitly better than the other).

Isn't there equipment that spreads the hallow? Like those holy water bomb things.

I'm actually going to completely cut off one section of corruption in my world before going hard mode. There will be open space on all sides of it.

I was considering doing that for my entire corruption, because it is just two small patches on one side of the map.

Regarding the bound NPCs (mechanic, goblin, etc.): Do they respawn on death/teleport to a room if you restart the game?

They do in fact respawn on death. You only need to rescue them once though.

I'm pretty sure both are 100% drops, yeah, because you only get one WoF per world.

I rescued the goblin by a pit of magma. He immediately walked over and died in it.

I really hope he moves in soon.

Corruption "firebreak" complete. I've dug a tunnel around the corruption, and lined the inside with mudstone blocks (let's see corruption vines grow through that!). Now all I have to do is finish working my way up to hellstone tier equipment and I can see if it works.
