I actually did something like that with a floating island on my single-player map.

I kind of knew health was going to be re-visted once they added the potion hotkey. The awkwardness of getting to your pots was the biggest thing that balanced them out. About the only midgame deaths I suffered were due to falling after they added the hotkey.

The wall thing is awesome though.

The key you hit that makes you consume the first healing item in your inventory?

Press H and it'll consume the first healing item, even if it's just a mushroom.
There's also a buffpotion hotkey that automatically uses all of the potions with effects you don't already have on, too: B.

But in all honestly, I think it actually makes different bricks look different in the editor.
