Quick question about piggy banks: Since their contents are tied to your character, can you use them to save 19 slots of inventory space (tossing 20 items into one, carrying another with you, placing it when you want to put something in/take something out of it)?

I would love to put my hand up, but I have racked up over 700 hours, and read both wikis until the servers hosting them ran out of bandwidth. Although I have had just about no time to play since 1.3 came out. Have had little time for games at all, beyond indulging in the odd dungeon crawl between works.

I need to get my wizard hat some time.

So... if I understand it, the only way to get high end gear is to kill bosses? But you generally need high end gear in order to kill them?

Unless you randomly find good stuff in chests (that wont work for me because my worlds chests are all defective).

Not exactly. You can kill your first boss, Eye of Cthulhu, with copper armor and several stacks of shurikens, if you're lucky. I would recommended iron armor.

You can get a full Jungle Grass set and a Blade of Grass without ever fighting a boss. And it's far better than demonite stuff.

But the Underground Jungle could itself count as a boss.

You really should only need a ton of healing potions and a good arena (wooden platforms over empty space or a moat) to beat the Eye of Cthulhu (and preferably have improved your maximum HP).

Each Hornet and Plant is like a mini-boss within itself.
