Just asking ahead here: Is the spider cavern a must in all world generated? As in--there's NO WAY it can't exist upon generation?
I'd...at least like an anti-arachnophobia button. :'(

I looked into the code a bit.  Found a routine named Spread::Spider, found the only caller, and saw a trivial way to disable it.

Requires hex editing Terraria.exe.  If you're comfortable with that, search for

08 20 F4 01 00 00 2F 08 09 11 04 28

change the bolded bytes F4 01 to 00 00

Note that you won't be able to get the hair stylist NPC, the web slinger hook, and the various spider-themed summoner-type gear.  (And the achievements for rescuing that NPC and having every NPC in your world.)

Further note that this doesn't remove the crimson-world blood crawlers or the hardmode jungle creepers.

Neat. Is there a way to get both crimson and corruption?

Or a more practical way to spread it, albeit longer. Get a clentaminator, get the steampunker and let it blood moon or trigger the solar eclipse, buy some of the unholy formula

start a new non-hardmode world, spread that spray as much as you can, then trigger H mode

anyone have any rough estimates on how long it would take to create a james cameron waterworld? me and my friend tried with his infinite bucket but the water level seemed to stop rising past a certain point

Me and neon tried to flood hell with the ocean and the game just decided to go 'welp no more ocean for you.'

So there may be some hard-coding to prevent waterworld style shenanigans.

That's specifically to prevent flooding hell.

It takes a very long amount of time. Your water's gonna leak into the cavern levels. Your water's gonna fill the corruption. If your dungeon door is open, it too will be filled with the water. It's gonna take a lot of time.

You can't flood hell with water anymore, but you can try toasting it with honey water.

I did flood hell with honey once. It was slow and sticky but the healing made fighting the hell spawns easier.

On a small world, you probably want to set up a water duplicator and periodically open a flood gate (actuators on the entire bottom).  As mentioned, the caverns and such will fill up, and if there's a straight shot to hell then it'll keep pouring in and evaporating and you'll reach a limit.  Additionally, water processing is funky, so you probably want to have a minecart track running from one end of the world to the other, and have a few people riding them so that they're observing the water, and that'll help it some.

Also when the water processing gets too heavy, the game will just force the math and settle all fluids instantly.  This can result in a low water level if there's somewhere for it to drain, and no good way to tell where because it happens so quickly.

Alternately, a shitload of the constantly full buckets and an equally large number of friends.

You need the bucket of unlimited water...

But I was so sick and tired of doing fishing quests I didn't bother.

Get one of the infinite duration yo-yos and you've become Flailord, the God of flailing yo-yos and swinging doom.

Recently got the DCU. By Jove, does it mine incredibly fast.

Speaking of speed... in case anyone is like me and didn't know, you can hit ctrl to toggle smart targeting for tools. It auto-breaks and auto-fills backwalls within a radius if the cursor with great speed, or selectively targets the base of trees to chop, or auto-digs a 2-tile hellevator or 3-tile tunnel. Great quality of life improvements.

So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.
