If they would release a developer kit for this game... can you imagine the possibilities? The mods?

Mods that add 3000 new enemies and 1000 new loot and recipes. New terrain types, gameplay modes, etc. Maybe even something that downloads new things every day.

If only...

Another balance suggestion:  Monster HP scaling with # of numbers.

I wish... But redigit and blue have both agreed no mod support, and it broke my heart. Anyway, with the code the way it is, mods would be very incompatible with each other, so you might be locked into one persons mod.

He spent all day working on it, implying he spent a day working on it? I would be very happy if Notch did in fact get this from terraria, as I'm a supporter of trading ideas and making them your own. Redigit uses floating islands for places to hide rewards, Notch uses floating islands as a new place to explore, so they aren't ripping each other off, but it would be nice to know that the two games are on friendly enough terms to compete with similar content.

Well, maybe you don't remember or weren't there, but back in the days of Indev, months before the Infinite worlds, Minecraft's map generator had a Floating Islands setting, along with Forest and Hell.  All he's really doing is bringing back old functionality in the Infinite World mechanic.  But yeah, it is nice to know that Notch and Redigit don't see each other an enemies or something, or at least there's certainly no evidence of any rivalry between them.

Might be if (probably when) Terraria makes its first million faster than Minecraft did though.  All they need at this point is a frontpage link from Valve.

Sorry, I wasn't around for the early days of MC. In my ignorance I didn't see the appeal, but oh how I see the light now.

Yea, MC is the flavour of the month, and yes terraria has a lot of common elements. Voxels FTW after all, but terraria reached mainstream popularity when Notch tweeted about it, giving it he's blessing. There is no hate here, just friendly rivalry between MC and terraria to see who can bring what to the table, each with their own dish, while Dwarf Fortress and MinerVGA warm their feet by the fire, and Dungeon Keeper chats up infiniminer.

I personally expected "heaven" biome much earlier, right after the inclusion of hell-like world. At least the possibilities were there... Also there were "skylands" map scripts etc. I wonder why did nobody make a floating island dimension and instead made ice/whatever dimensions.

Someone was in the process of making one when Notch did this.

It's also hilarious that Notch is faffing about with the map script that people have been doing for ages. The only reason it's not widely used is lag issues.

inb4 Notch doesn't fix those issues and his sky dimension is a bust.

I'm still quite disappointed that there won't be mod support. Now we can only rely on the devs for content, and all we have is their word. Considering they're the kind of devs that don't want mods... well... I don't really like their word.

Oh well. I did play this for 30 hours at $10 admission price. So I did get my moneys worth. Just the potential is all up in the air.

Well, the basis of the attraction to their game is having a lot of content. The replay value will come in when they introduce a boss that is way to strong to take on for yourself, so you meet up with some friends to go for these new drops, or a new biome comes out so the gen a new world to go find it. Like an MMO, you hang out for new content, else things will shrivel fast. Hell, I already have a maxed out character after only a few days, so there isn't much reason to keep playing right now. They are either going to provide a crap load of content, open the game to modders, or die after a spark of awesome.

It seems that they're actually quite open to suggestions - I think it's them who will be 'modding' the game with ton of content :P

We need to wait - just five days passed since the release and they're working on bugs first. I dunno where but I remember they mentioned adding snow-capped hill biomes or something and to fill deserts with some special monsters.

Snow x6, Iron x3 = Freezer :P
Oooh, and you could make ice-cream there :D And it would regen both health and mana :P

My money's on the "spark of awesome" outcome.  There's only so many ideas a set team can pack into a game, and it certainly looks like they've got almost all of them in there already.  Considering, as Max demonstrates, a dozen or two hours of gametime and some luck is all a person really needs to have every item and see every boss, and you can even keep your stuff from one gameworld to the next.  If they don't crank out awesome shit on a weekly basis, "no modding" is going to mean "no replayability" for 90% of their customer base.

Of course, since the cover charge is all they ask, why should they give a shit if you're bored after a few days?

Anyway.  Broke my first Shadow Orb, and got a musket with no ammo.  Oh goody.  At least I know where some Demon Alters are now.  And Eyethulhu's back.  I swear to God, he shows up every other night cycle, and there's not a damn thing I can do about him.

You'll get ammo from the Arms Dealer who should be arriving soon.

Or you make some out of meteorite bars.

When an orb drops a musket, about 30 musket balls should drop with it. Maybe you didn't have enough inventory space?

I didn't get any ammo either, so maybe it's random?

Apparently Eyethulhu comes when you breach a certain underground layer. He'll keep coming every few nights until you kill him.

Edit:

There's several ways to deal with him for a low gear player.
1. Invite multiplayer friends to come help kill him
2. Make a watch and hide at the second underground layer every time the message appears
3. Just die on your spawn and respawn, losing absolutely nothing
4. Quit and reenter
5. Bow, 900 arrows, 60 health potions, rooftop arena of DEATH!
