Dwarf Fortress d40 resolution question
« on: May 15, 2011, 11:25:44 pm »

I apologize in advance for an annoying question, but here it is:

I want to play version 0.28.181.40d with a tileset and graphics set (cause I'm not that hardcore).

My tileset is the GuyBrush 16x16, res 1280x400

My graphic set is the Quantis 16x16, res 1280x400 (and specifically the one for this version)

When I edit my init to these values it look fine but 80x25 grid tiles just is toooo vertically short for me as my native display is 1920x1080.  When I try to change the y value for the grid it gets all wacky looking (stretched out).  When I double each value (160x50) everything gets tiny.  When I change everything to the settings described on the d40 Technical Tips page of magmawiki (1600x1200, 100 x 75) it's a disaster (the game screen is in the upper right corner but much of the top is obscured and off screen, somehow).  I have black space on, if it matters.

I really just want the screen to display more tiles on the y axis and to stretch to accommodate that.  Am I trying for something impossible?

I know that DF2010 is easier to deal with but I want to play with the nobility and not hack the raws or whatever.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It looks like I figured it out.  I just kept increasing things till it looked ok.  I think my issue before may have been that black space wasn't actually set to YES, it was set to "yes" (lowercase) which isn't recognized.  Thanks to anyone that considered responding in the 10 minutes this was up.  This game is awesome, looking forward to new versions (especially with the nobility back in).

Version 0.28.181.40d is configured the same as version 0.31.xx Legacy - if you use 0.28.181.40d19, you can configure it the same as 0.31.xx SDL, complete with the ability to resize the window on the fly.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
