Smart Kobold Roguelike
« on: May 15, 2011, 10:36:26 pm »

So I found a new Roguelike today. And my god is it an interesting find.

Smart Kobold is a game that puts you into the position of a high-level fighter, and sends him into a cave of kobolds possessing amazing riches. Sounds all good right?

Wrong.

These kobolds are ready for you, and they have a plan to kill pesky adventurers. Your crystal broadsword of force and infinite charge ring of searching won't save you. Not in this cave.

Oh, and it has music. That's always nice.

So, good luck, you all will need it.

Hehe, you're right. Anyway the trick is to try and lure them out instead of going in swords-blazing.

Also, I'm noticing that whenever I try to get near a Kobold Archer, they snap their bow. Wow. They really don't want me to use their bows.

Just a tip, it's "Rogue", not "Rouge".

I somehow manage to guess the wrong spelling every time, despite being aware of my constant misspelling of roguelike.

The lack of a decent health meter aside from sparkles is innovative but slightly frustrating. The level build is amazing. It actually produces proper curved space 2d layouts that are consistent internally.

Couple of things I've found to be biggies. If you can get a ranged weapon, your far better off then with just your sword, since it is FAR easier to snipe the fricken kobolds then it is to chase them down.

The ring of searching can be used multiple times in a row to search out basically a 10 square radius. Very useful.

It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

This actually has z levels of a sort, but very smooth. I had a tunnel wrap around and go OVER another tunnel. It was awesome, and jesus fuck, how do you lure them out without getting absoultely rolled?

Edit: Hitting 's'earch a whole bunch of times increases the radius of the search to a HUGE area, and you disarm all of the traps it finds. Helpful!

You can meditate and run around for a bit, and they will run out and try to kill you.
Though this one works a few times. Getting a ranged weapon seems impossible, unless you manage to sneak in and get one. However, i have only managed to sneak in a few rooms before getting caught. The kobolds patrol a lot.
