I'll have to give this one a try when I have some more time.  But y'know, I've never thought to myself, "This is a pretty good roguelike, but it needs more unavoidable ganking."

By the way, I have an idea of where the game got its genesis.  There's been a legend of D&D Kobolds actually being played as trapping, organized little pygmies, as they're actually described - Tucker's Kobolds - floating around since the mid-80s.  Sounds like a good time.

the same author released Vicious Orcs this year as well which is quite similar in a lot of ways.

The lack of a decent health meter aside from sparkles is innovative but slightly frustrating.
There's an option: Sparkle Count>No Sparks. It's not great but it's better.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Yeah I saw it. It just took me a while to figure out that the sparkle thing was my health meter.

And yes, this is almost at Tucker's Kobold levels. The actual Kobold's behave incredibly intelligently, just need more trap rooms and less individual traps.

I just scanned it with an up to date Avast, and nothing.

There it is! The moment I saw this game, I remembered something about a super-smart DnD kobold dungeon... but for the life of me, I couldn't remember the name. Thanks!  :D

Man. This game is hard. Maybe to the point where that is not a good thing.

(I would also like to state for the record that Tucker's Kobolds are pretty much a combination of player ineptitude/downplaying the CR involved in these things/Straight up GM cheating.)

GMs dont cheat, players just dont seem to be intelligent enough to realize that the GM is god, and god may respond when he feels he isnt being respected enough, with interest.  You want to drain the lake into the dungeon to kill the baddie? ok, yes that was clever, and now you are complaining about the 3 bone dragons in the bottom of the lake?  WELL SHIT SON, THAT AINT MY ISSUE

No. The traps and such were all rated CR10ish, and the Tucker's Kobolds style encounter is designed to take an overconfident 8-12 level party and put them in their place. The fact that when faced with a Tucker's Kobolds style encounter, even an 18-20 intelligence wizard will blindly run forward rather then thinking isn't the DM's fault. It's on the level of Tomb of Horrors. The DM doesn't cheat in that one either, its just a massively hard module.

I seriously cannot beat this!
Yes, this game is amazing - as it is result of intelligent opponents rather than swarm of zombies.

Amazing necromancy, sirrah.

And now you remind me that those kobolds still pulled my lungs out through my nose. Blast.

This guy has made a load of neat things. I played Powder to death on my DS. Never beat it but enjoyed every minute.

This actually has z levels of a sort, but very smooth. I had a tunnel wrap around and go OVER another tunnel. It was awesome, and jesus fuck, how do you lure them out without getting absoultely rolled?
The way he does 3D is really nice, confusing at first, though.
