Save compatibility with Mac port
« on: February 20, 2008, 11:36:00 am »

Apologies if this is answered somewhere on the site, I couldn't find it... will saves on the Mac version be compatible with the windows version and vice versa?  I'm planning to have a succession game with my sister who uses Mac when the Mac version comes out, and I'd like to know if it will be possible.  Thank you!

code:
DevLog says:

(*)did a first pass on PPC endian support for all saved files

That may mean the saves will be cross platform.

He he, it means the saves will eventually be cross-platform for PPC Macs, but they probably aren't right now -- hopefully they even work at all.  On my Intel Mac, I've so far sent movie files back and forth with no problem.  I have yet to test actual save files, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.  World generation seeds even gave the same result between computers last time I checked, but since that is subject to compiler optimizations, it's not something that will necessarily be easy to preserve.  In any case, the goal is to make everything as compatible as possible.

Thank you for the response.  I'm glad to hear things are working well so far, and I'll make sure to test out the save compatibility for you when the Mac version comes out  :)
