Miner worked himself to death
« on: November 08, 2007, 03:59:00 pm »

I had possibly broken the raws by adding [CIV_PLAYABLE] to all the other standard races, and was experiencing the joy of making humans build for my pleasure when the miner simply died of dehydration. He was working perfectly well up until that moment, and there was nothing else to indicate something was wrong. There was no fey mood, nothing like that. Everyone else was perfectly hydrated, there was in fact water quite close by to drink.

One thing I did notice that was odd was that the nearby river wasn't displayed with the usual ~ "brook" symbols, but with numbers for water depth. Not sure if that's supposed to happen and during what circumstances.

The numbers for water depth are something that is turned on in the ini.

Numbers for water depth on a brook? Yeah, that's odd (unless it was a shoreline)

But in order for your civ_controlables to drink from water sources, you need to designate a water source 'i'nteractivity zone (by pressing 'i') on the land tile directly next to the water.

-- Because humans are not [ALCOHOL_DEPENDENT] they will not look for booze to drink first; they will look for water.

I can't actually remember if I had done that or not... but the others weren't even thirsty while this guy dehydrated to death... But then again none of the others were working nearly as hard as he.

As for the brook, I turned on numbers for water depth in the ini, and it doesn't give me those for brooks (I guess brooks are some sort of special case) until I dig channels in the water (sic!) but this one was all numbers from the start, so I guess it wasn't a brook at all for some reason. It had all the other features of a brook though - started and ended at edges of the map, with one edge having a lot lower water as the water "fell off the edge"... Just like the other brooks I've had except no tildes and roughly-equals signs.

Was he injured, and no beds built?  I've had people work to death in that case
